SUMMARY
As a member of the R&D team, this individual’s primary responsibilities are to develop prepreg systems and composite solutions in support of multiple industries.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Interface with Customers and Sales to gather and analyze material requirements and specifications
- Lead multidiscipline project teams to develop thermoplastic composite prepreg solutions for the energy, aerospace, and industrial markets.
- Lead projects involving members from Operations, Quality and R&D to develop and commercialize prepreg systems including operating parameters, workmanship standards and test protocols.
- Lead projects to characterize and/or qualify new and existing prepreg materials, including specification development
- Provide application support as the key technical point of contact for major customers
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Attend trade shows representing Barrday in technical discussions
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
- Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline directly related to composites technology – Advanced Degree Desirable
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience developing composite prepreg systems in energy, aerospace or industrial markets.
- Knowledge and experience with thermoplastic resin chemistry for prepreg applications, preferably high performance and engineering thermoplastics
- Thorough knowledge of the properties, usage and supply base of glass, carbon and other high performance fibers and reinforcements preferred
- Has managed composite prepreg product qualification projects
- Has led the transfer of R&D products from initial concept through manufacturing commercialization
- Understands and has worked with physical and mechanical test standards and is capable of generating and interpreting data from such test methods.
- Travel as needed, up to 10-20% travel may be required
WORKING CONDITIONS
The Senior R&D Project Engineer position requires both office work and the ability to work in a material manufacturing and warehouse environment. The position will require frequent sitting, during office work, and walking and standing for long periods while working with the operations team which is located within three separate buildings at the site.
