SUMMARY:

The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for engineering design, construction administration and project execution. This position reports to the Managing Engineer and is an integral part of NSU’s wastewater treatment and water reuse projects primarily in the New Jersey and New York Service Areas with additional support provided nationwide. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Applies broad knowledge of principles and practice in a specific practice area.
  • Independently evaluates, selects, and adapts standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
  • Acquires general knowledge of principles and practices of related fields, and ability to function on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Works on multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects.
  • Design a complete project, system, component, or process.
  • Prepares complete project documents.
  • Designs and conducts experiments, and analyzes and interprets data.
  • Formulates and solves problems.
  • Assigns tasks to and directs engineers, technicians, and administrative staff.
  • Plans and coordinates detailed aspect of the engineering work.
  • Prepares scopes, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Assists with proposals to provide professional services or obtain funding for engineering projects or programs.
  • Receives general direction on key objectives.
  • Receives guidance when necessary on unconventional or complex problems, direction on modified techniques, and new approaches on assignments with conflicting criteria.
  • Interacts with clients, customers, officials, contractors, and others.
  • Attends project meetings and presents specific aspect of engineering assignments.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises 0-2 employees within the New Jersey Engineering department(s).
  • Coordinates consultants, vendors and subcontractors as needed based on project requirements.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree (BA) in Civil or Environmental Engineering or a related field.
  • 5-10 years of engineering design experience with an emphasis on 10,000 gpd to 10 MGD wastewater treatment facilities. Water reuse and energy recovery system experience preferred.
  • Certificates, licenses, and registrations required:
    • Professional Engineering (P.E.) License
  • Computer skills required:
    • Auto CAD and Revit Proficiency
    • Microsoft Office Suite
