Senior Managing Editor Job at MarketWise Solutions

MarketWise Solutions Baltimore, MD 21201

Overview:

The Senior Managing Editor (ME) is a “franchise-lead” position, meaning this employee focuses on product management at the editorial level. The SME is the day-to-day manager of the financial publication – with input from the Editorial Director, Director of Content Operations and the Executive Editor. This person understands the audience, the features and benefits of the publication, the investment strategy the product is organized around and the “voice” of the analyst/guru who is the “face” of the franchise.
We’re seeking a candidate with the chops to:
  • Harvest the financial insights of the analyst/guru – and “productize” them in a way that creates high-concept content.
  • Deliver content that has a point of view, that positions the guru as a true “expert” – and that creates followers and fans, vs mere readers and subscribers.
  • Develop ideas that create forward-looking fulfillment – with the potential to feed into promotional campaigns.
  • And to grow as the TradeSmith editorial team grows, adding to the strong “bench” that will create future team leaders.
In joining TradeSmith, you’re joining a company that’s shaping the future of financial publishing, understands the future of individual investing, and has positioned itself as the leader – far ahead of its rivals.

We publish our own, branded investment research – with an expertise in stocks, options and income generation. But TradeSmith is a true “fintech” firm: The research we sell and the storylines we tell are all based on our own, proprietary analytical tools created by our global development team. The bottom line: We can offer our subscribers the kind of one-stop packages our rivals can’t match.
Responsibilities:
  • Edit investment advisories from the guru in a way that excises institutional “broker-speak” and other financial jargon.
  • Proofread, fact check, and scrutinize every detail of each piece of content we create.
  • Employ storytelling and other narrative devices that create reader engagement.
  • Ghost-write content that augments what the guru delivers.
  • Manage and maintain model portfolios for investment advisories
  • Update financial reports, repackage content, and make our biggest ideas shine
  • Collaborate with editorial and production teams to create a consistent “look” and messaging that builds the brand.
  • Develop expertise on key tenets of investing.
  • Keep up with current market trends through independent research on relevant and reliable sources within the investment industry.
  • Develop the specialized knowledge in the product’s subject-matter area (eg. cryptocurrencies, social media, technology, quantitative investing are examples of some of the topic areas we publish around).
  • Partner on additional strategic projects within the editorial and production teams.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English or related field is highly desired
  • 2-4 years of experience on an editorial team – preferably in the financial-publishing/newsletter business
  • Exceptional demonstrated grammar and writing skills
  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks and assignments with little supervision
  • Extremely sharp eye for detail
  • High level of self-direction and a strong work ethic
  • Ability to juggle and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to execute under tight production deadlines as determined by editorial schedule
  • Ability to adapt to company-specific style preferences, tasks, and workflow processes
  • Ability to remain seated for extended periods of time
  • Visual acuity for reading and using the computer
  • Ability to hear
  • Ability to freely move about the office or remote working environment
  • Ability to use the phone/computer/keyboard/mouse/general office equipment for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate with others in order to exchange information
  • Fluency in the English language
