JOB SUMMARY

As the Senior Design Engineer within an EPC, you will design the most efficient utility scale (1MW to 20MW) photovoltaic system which meets the customer specifications while being constructable and cost efficient. You will optimize project cost and asset value though iteration of creating layouts and production models, incorporate major material selection into the project cost models, then maintain and update production model as needed from IFC through Final Performance Testing.


TEAM RELATIONSHIPS

The Senior Design Engineer reports directly to the Director of Project Engineering and works closely with other key staff including preconstruction, supply chain, project management, and other engineers including electrical, civil, and project engineers.


PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Creates, iterates, maintains, and updates accurate system performance models using PV Case and PVsyst
  • Proactively makes improvement recommendations on system design, layout, production, procurement, and engineering
  • Reviews performance testing documentation and validates performance estimates; leads root cause identification and resolution to correct underperformance
  • Performs value engineering and analysis for energy model production and installation costs including select equipment to optimize system economics, functionality, reliability, constructability, and safety
  • Develops and progresses PV system layouts using civil, environmental, permitting, and interconnection considerations
  • Develops and maintains ST EPC energy modeling and design standards
  • Fills in as project engineer as needed

DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Degree required: bachelor’s degree in engineering (civil, electrical, structural, or mechanical) or related field is required
  • Expert-level, demonstrated PV system performance modeling using PVsyst, PV Case, and AutoCAD
  • Thorough understanding of PV project performance testing standards and methods
  • A minimum three years’ experience in utility scale solar PV system design or related field required
  • Strong understanding of physical, electrical, and structural construction plans and the relevant electrical & building codes as they pertain to solar PV design
  • Strong planning, organization, proactive work, and prioritization skills
