Summary/Objective

This Senior Design Engineer will be assigned specific product design and development projects for PrimeSource Building Products brands. The projects assigned to this position will be start to finish projects with all responsibilities from scoping the project all the way through product launch. The projects this position will be assigned vary in scope with some being highly visible, key company products.

Essential Functions

1. Development of complete systems and/or product segments.

2. Oversee the development of building products.

3. Creation of detail drawings of new/existing components.

4. Analyzes engineering sketches, specifications and related data and drawings to determine design factors such as size, shape and arrangement of parts.

5. Reviews product design for compliance with engineering principles, company standards and customer contract requirements, and related specifications.

6. Coordinates activities concerned with technical developments, scheduling and resolving engineering design and test problems.

7. Responsible for all aspects of project management for each product design or development project.

8. Responsible for new product design.

9. Development of prototypes.

10. Testing new/existing products including development of test protocols and methods.

11. Assist in the creation of product catalogs/literature/website content. This includes development of renderings, customer service drawings, instructions, and other technical documentation for customers.

12. Manages several projects at one time.

13. Prepares interim and completion project reports.

14. Oversees and manages engineering technician(s).

15. Other duties as assigned.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This position will also be expected to use typical engineering equipment such as 3D printers along with typical measurement devices like calipers, scales and force gauges. This job may also require the use of various test equipment and hand tools to test or mount various products.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Required Education and Experience

· Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering

· 10-15 years of experience

· Experience with hands-on testing and procedures

· Experience in the design, development and testing of building products

· CAD drafting - SolidWorks required

· Experience/knowledge of testing procedures and codes, specifically relating to building products

· Experience in machining, sheet metal, injection molding and die casting

· Experience/knowledge of fasteners and related tooling such as nail guns and collated screw systems

· Rendering experience, a plus

· FEA analysis experience a plus

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
