The Security Officer is responsible for providing safety and security services which requires regular interaction with patients, visitors, staff and clinicians in highly diverse and complex situations. Interacts with local law enforcement to provide information, clarification of events and coordinate emergency protocols. Works effectively and cooperatively within the workplace. Location/Department specific tasks and competencies may apply. Salary Range: $19.68/hr to $28.54/hr DOE Skagit Regional Health offers a comprehensive benefit package including medical, dental, vision, 457b/401a (retirement), long term disability, sick time, and paid time off to all employees working 20 or more hours per week.
Environmental Factors
Essential Functions
Provide safety and security services which includes; patrolling grounds, parking lots, buildings, securing entryways and exits, etc. to effectively address potential conduct issues, violations of policy, check for property damage, inspect safety issues, inspect certain safety features such as fire extinguishers or water valves, respond to all codes, address trespassing concerns, provide assistance with out of control patients, and utilizes electronic checkpoints. Provide stand-by service or escort services for protection of caregivers or patients as needed. Provide courtesy services such as providing directions, locksmith functions, jump-starts, changing flat tires, reporting vehicles with lights on, and assisting families in times of crisis. Provide non-violent physical crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques to neutralize extreme situations and mitigate negative outcomes. Provide crowd control during events resulting in an influx of patients and/or visitors. Responsible for coordinating information, clarification of events and coordinating emergency protocols which may require collaboration with external safety and law enforcement agencies. Respond to all emergency situations and applies appropriate protocols for the Code, Disaster (command center), ETO Exposure, Fire, Flood, Hazardous spills, and all code situations. Responsible for adhering to protocols; completing, filing and maintaining correct documentation, filing reports, and assists with maintaining building access control by utilizing the computerized badge/door system. Maintain ability to effectively utilize Microsoft Office (Outlook) and department specific software applications to perform work. Communicate effectively and cooperatively in the workplace. Actively contribute to the achievement of Quality Improvement and Lean Process Improvement activities. Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner. Maintain current licensure and/or certification as required. Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings. Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.
Minimum Physical Requirements
Education
High School diploma or GED required.
Experience/Training
One (1) year security, military or police experience is preferred. Healthcare facility experience preferred.
License/Certification
Valid Washington State Driver's license as required to perform duties.
Other Qualifications
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to effectively utilize Microsoft Office applications to perform work. Well developed problem solving and analytical skills required. Must be able to effectively prioritize workload amongst frequent interruptions with competing priorities. Knowledge of de-escalation techniques. Must have an acceptable driver record. Ability to coordinate work schedule with requirements of position (may include overtime and weekend work).
