Security Officer - 1st Shift Job at S & C Electric Company
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- When on patrol, officers focus on regulating traffic and parking conditions, preventing loss of property, providing an environment that ensures personal safety, and responding to emergency situations. The emergencies in which officers assist include medical, fire, hazardous material releases, unauthorized entry, confined space rescue, severe weather conditions, and building evacuations. Officers must be certified in the use of a self-contained breathing apparatus. All officers are also required to document investigations conducted in response to these duties and emergency situations.
- When staffing the SOC, officers responsibilities include monitoring all facility fire, building supervisory, high voltage supply, intrusion alarms and closed circuit video systems. They also weigh, stage and direct all commercial deliveries and shipments and function as the radio communications dispatcher and telephone switchboard operator off-hours.
- Duties of the gatehouse officer include monitoring vehicular, visitor and team member traffic, directing all shipping and receiving transports, screening contractors and issuing identification badges and parking permits. Officers are also responsible for maintaining and logging information on all commercial-related entrants.
- Security Officers perform other duties as required.
To select this job as one of interest to you, at a minimum, you must have the following:
- High School diploma or acceptable General Educational Development (GED) or some college/Associate's Degree preferred.
- Illinois Driver's License and Illinois Firearms Owner's Identification Card.
- Good verbal and written communication skills; proficiency with personal computers.
- State of Illinois Security Officer 40-Hour Training Program.
- A Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) and ability to successfully obtain the Firearm Control Card (FCC) issued from the State of Illinois, Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
Relevant Work Experience:
Four years of security or related background. Industrial security, law enforcement, or military experience preferred.
MAJOR PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Standing: Remaining in an upright position as tasks may require.
- Lifting: Picking up fire extinguishers, emergency response equipment to a maximum of 40 lbs.
- Walking: Frequent walking and climbing of stairs while on patrol.
- Carrying: Carrying emergency equipment to a maximum of 40 lbs.
- Pushing: Occasional pushing when assisting motorists during heavy snow conditions.
- Pulling: Occasional pulling when assisting in emergency operations.
- Bending: Occasional bending when assisting in emergency operations.
- Reaching: Occasional reaching when assisting in emergency operations.
- Handling: Use of two-way radio, writing instruments, traffic control aids, flashlight, firearm, pepper spray.
- Environment: Respirator certification required.
