Position Overview
The HQ Security Coordinator will be responsible for the security of the main MCPL Headquarters Campus while assisting the Security Director and Associate Security Director with day-to-day clerical duties. The HQ Security Coordinator will also be responsible for operating the main phone switchboard, monitoring the entry and exit of vendors and staff from the main facility, and providing excellent customer service to all staff and customers on the phone, virtually, and in person. This position will also be responsible for emergency drills, such as but not limited to, fire alarm, tornado and active threat evacuations, and serving as a member of the HQ Emergency Response team.
Essential Functions
  • Answers and fields phone calls for general questions concerning the work of the library, greets, check-in/out of visitors and monitors access to the Administrative Headquarters Building
  • Assists in scheduling training for the Security Director and Associate Security Director, assists Senior Leadership Team members with various assigned tasks, maintains the emergency phone directory, and maintains manual sign-in logs for the Administrative building
  • Responsible for the security of the HQ campus. This includes conducting a roving patrol of the campus throughout the day, securing alarms and HQ building at the end of business day
Non-essential Functions
  • Maintains and provides photo ID cards for all new and existing staff as needed
  • Maintains and updates the Security department’s intranet page with applicable information
  • Maintains and monitors lobby office equipment and supplies and shred bins located throughout the building
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma/HiSet/GED Completion Required
  • 1 year experience in a professional office environment with administrative or receptionist responsibilities Required
  • Security Officer or Peace Officer training preferred
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Job Knowledge, including Librarianship
    • Identifies the needs of the HQ campus and has the ability to find solutions to issues that arise
    • Identifies needs and creates solutions independently or with the assistant of Security department team members
    • Patrols and monitors activities on the HQ campus regularly to discourage loitering and criminal activity
    • Ability to enforce the proper protocol and procedure

  • Technology including specific applications, hardware, and coding languages
    • Digital literacy with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel
    • Understanding of basic computer usage and ability to use a phone system and transfer calls to their proper locations
    • Ability to work with CCTV software
    • Understanding of basic CCTV software and the ability to work with other members of the department to archive video
    • Ability to identify video needed for investigations and proper video storage per the Revised Statutes of Missouri

Work Environment
  • (Indoor/Outdoor) Works both indoors and outdoors and must have considerable tolerance for weather conditions, dust, mold, scents, allergens, and communicable diseases which enable the employee to work outside at a facility, handle construction and library materials, work in older buildings and on jobsites, and interact with coworkers and the public.
