Position Purpose:
Collects samples from the distribution system, point of entries, wells, plants and source water and wastewater (if applicable) for routine analyses dictated by the chain of custody and performs field tests to determine water temperature, pH and chlorine residual on each sample collected.
Primary Duties/responsibilities:
- Ensures field meter instruments are properly calibrated and operating optimally. Troubleshoot meter/collection whenever results are questionable.
- Tabulates data collected from sampling sites.
- Collects watershed stream samples for laboratory analyses.
- Collects samples from dead ended mains on Distribution System as required for analyses.
- Prepares laboratory bottles, sampling kits and coolers, and chains of custody for sample collection and relinquishment.
- Performs field determinations of odor and other aesthetics, treats samples for dissolved oxygen analysis, and records water temperatures, pH and chlorine residuals. Records observations on chain of custody.
- Performs similar, or less, skilled work as assigned.
- Assists employees of a higher classification as assigned.
Education/Experience/Background:
- Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Operates company systems, devices and software applications.
- Must possess good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong problem solving skills and ability to independently follow through on tasks and projects.
- Performs basic math operations.
Required Certification/Licenses/Training:
- Driver's License.
- Must pass entry level test.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Requires manual dexterity to work with intricate and delicate instruments.
- Must be able to visually inspect and accurately interpret field analysis and lab reports.
- Must be able to identify odors.
