Overview:
This position is responsible for the effective design and implementation of a Safety program that has the objective of elimination of injuries and illnesses through the use of multiple plant disciplines, safety, industrial hygiene, and health. Protection of the property is accomplished by the application and implementation of sound fire protection principles and an effective security program. Understanding the accident process, the accident prevention process, and unit behavior management strategies is critical to the successful implementation of these programs.

This position leads/coordinates all aspects of safety and health related issues through communications, leadership, and participation. Examples of specific issues include accident investigation, reporting, and prevention procedures; expanded involvement of all members of the organization through participation and development of problem solving and leadership teams for all issues related to the Worker Protection Process of the Glass Group.

Responsibilities:
WORKER PROTECTION - Provides leadership for a safe and healthy work environment for all employees by developing and administering a comprehensive plant safety and health process and serves as the technical resources for all plant supervisory personnel in all safety and health issues.

QUALITY/CUSTOMERS - Provides and implements the standards required by the Company and governmental agencies in a timely and effective manner, while communicating relative information to all employees within the plant. Applies the principles of the quality process to prevent all accidents.

REGULATORY COMPLIANCE/CONTROL - Ensures the efficient and effective operation of the plant medical programs and facilities through proper supervision of adequately trained state Worker's Compensation program. Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory agency requirements and reviews all authorization requests to assure conformance with established safety standards.

ADMINISTRATION - Administers and implements all safety programs for the plant. Ensures that all required documentation is maintained. Sample programs include the Hazard Communication Program, Lockout Tagout, Personal Protective Equipment, Hearing Conservation, Respiratory Protection, Industrial Hygiene Monitoring and many others. This accountability includes assuring the timely and appropriate education and training of employees.

TRAINING - Assists all members of the plant in developing knowledge of safety and health requirements by developing pertinent programs and innovative approaches, conducting periodic training sessions, participating in safety meetings, and assuring a process is in place to develop competent unit trainers.

SECURITY ADMINISTRATION - Supervises the plant security staff and manages the plant program to control access to and from the plant, minimizes theft and vandalism and protects the company technology and plant facility.

IMAGE/EEO - Contributes to the effectiveness of the unit's equal employment opportunity program by implementing all established procedures, ensuring that department personnel receive the training and development necessary, establishing goals for selection and upgrading, and regular communication with superior and staff members. Assists in the efforts of maintaining an excellent company and local image by implementing programs to improve employee and community relations.

PERSONAL GROWTH - Continues personal and professional growth and development for effectiveness in all accountability areas through continued management development training and day-to-day activities on the job.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED EDUCATION Bachelor of Science SPECIALITY/DEGREE Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related academic study

YEARS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 4 years of safety leadership/management

Specific technical knowledge is required in all aspects of safety, industrial hygiene, Unit Policies and Procedures and Worker's Compensation Regulations.

TEAM INVOLVEMENT - The ability to lead and motivate teams and employee groups to effect involvement in safety improvement teams, and ergonomic teams.

BEHAVIORAL ASPECTS - This position must utilize behavioral skills and sensitivity to lead and support the behavioral accident prevention process for the facility in individual contacts required with communication of industrial hygiene monitoring results and the establishment of a sound worker's compensation strategy.

INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE PROCESS - The ability to anticipate the effect of process change on employee exposures, direct a responsive sampling strategy to ensure appropriate action, effective controls and follow up.

PROCESS SAFETY - Analytical and communication skills are required to recognize and evaluate the impact of this emerging field on the facility, employees and community.

TRAINING - Skills to establish a training strategy which enables facility participation in defining the requirements, providing options for effective training, and document management to verify completion. Personal training and meeting leadership skills are a requirement.
