Position Highlights:
This position is responsible for quality management and cell processing procedures with extensive experience in managing stem cell research studies related to clinical care. The laboratory is part of a FACT accredited Stem Cell Transplant Program which cares for an adult patient population undergoing either autologous or allogeneic stem cell transplantation. Participate in all laboratory activities including maintenance of QC/QA programs as well as the responsibility of maintaining FACT accreditation for the Blood & Marrow Transplant Program. Exemplifies the Rush mission, vision and values, and acts in accordance with Rush policies and procedures.
Position Responsibilities:
Executes daily operation of the laboratory, provides technical guidance to junior staff, and reports to the Laboratory Manager or Director.
Performs the testing, cryopreservation, storage, thawing and infusion operations of hematopoietic progenitor cells collected from patients.
Troubleshoot and repair, when possible, equipment used in the HPC Lab
Maintains the inventory of supplies, reagents and HPC grafts.
Develops and maintains patient data related to HPC graft processing.
Purchase supplies and reagents, minimizing waste and cost by timely ordering and adequate inventory management.
Administrates patient billing, lab requests, and office/laboratory supplies.
Assist in developing and initiating quality control measures, revises established tolerances as necessary or desirable.
Plan advanced stage experimentation for new assay development, validation of a procedure or new equipment for which procedures may not exist.
Assist the Director preparing new scientific report or writing manuscripts or proposals, and scientific reports related to the activities of the clinical laboratory.
Assist in writing and implementing new standard operating procedures (SOP) for the laboratory that establish methods that comply with FACT, CAP and FDA standards.
Assist in monitoring the performance of the processing facility as well as compliance with FACT and other applicable regulatory bodies.
Shall create reports for audits and validation of new procedures, equipment or process and send these reports to the Laboratory Director.
Assist in training laboratory technical staff to perform various laboratory procedures.
Perform initial analysis and interpretation of test results, assist in planning tests to be validated and designing internal audits for the laboratory.
Responsible for completion of daily work by other staff members of the laboratory and performing task in the absence of lower level staff members in the laboratory.
Responsible for performing professional duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager and Director.
Facilitate the training and establishment of Stem Cell research studies.
Train Pathology residents and CLS students who rotate through the HPC lab.
Validate and established SOPs for new equipment in the HPC lab to comply with FACT, CAP and FDA standards.

Required Position Qualifications:
Bachelor¡¦s Degree in biological, chemical, or medical sciences, (such as biology, pharmacology/toxicology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, physiology, or medical technology) or a closely related field and 3 years of experience in aspects of processing of mobilized peripheral blood and bone marrow and umbilical cord blood for autologous and allogeneic transplantation OR A Master¡¦s Degree in biological, chemical, or medical sciences (such as biology, pharmacology/toxicology, microbiology, chemistry, nutrition, physiology, or medical technology) and 1 year of experience in aspects of processing of mobilized peripheral blood and bone marrow and umbilical cord blood for autologous and allogeneic transplantation.
Knowledge and skills of quality management, accreditation, aseptic techniques, control rate freezing and familiarity with flow cytometry and automated cell analysis.
Research experience in the field of hematopoietic stem cell biology will be considered advantageous.
Experience in hematology/immunology, or stem cell processing and cryopreservation, and/or blood banking experience.
Strong interpersonal, communication and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of MS Office.
Ability to work extended hours, possibly on weekends or holidays.
Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively with the patient and health care team, recognizing the special needs of each patient
Customer service skills.
Decision-making skills required
Organizational and follow-up skills.
Able to work independently.
Experience with regulatory and research protocols, procedures and policies.

Preferred Position Qualifications:
Masters degree in Biological sciences, medical or Laboratory science.
Knowledge of aseptic techniques and proficiency with flow cytometry.
Knowledge of regulatory compliance.
Knowledge of Epic.
