Job Summary:
The Research Engineer position is responsible for developing capabilities and competencies in polymer characterization techniques relative to polymer science, chemistry and analytical masterfulness in order to optimize the utilization of instrument and technical resources to effectively support polyolefin business in R&D or product/application development. All while sustaining a safe and healthful working environment that meets environmental, health, safety regulations, and company requirements.

Job Summary:
The Research Engineer position is responsible for developing capabilities and competencies in polymer characterization techniques relative to polymer science, chemistry and analytical masterfulness in order to optimize the utilization of instrument and technical resources to effectively support polyolefin business in R&D or product/application development. All while sustaining a safe and healthful working environment that meets environmental, health, safety regulations, and company requirements.
Job Requirements:
- A minimum 5 years of polymer experiences, preferably in polyolefin with experience conducting polymer material analysis and research in a laboratory setting.
- M.S. or above in Polymer Sciences, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Polymer/Materials Sciences and Engineering, Chemistry, or a closely related field from a recognized university.
- Conduct research and provide technical solution regarding optimal polymer structure or composition, selection of catalyst, additive formulation, process parameters, process, and fabrication technologies.
- Develop the characterization program and solve manufacturing problems (especially VOC characterization for PP automotive business) to achieve value creation, product and process improvement, and cost saving.
- Conduct fundamental study on the relationship among the catalyst composition, polymer structure and polymer physical properties for product improvements and de-bottle neck projects.
- Ensure reproducible and reliable polymer characterizations are carried out to meet the needs of R&D and QA/QC by coordinating instrument calibration, training technician, setting and improving test protocols, reviewing data and communicating with internal and external clients.
- Interfacing with internal and external clients, commend proper test and analyses, provide support in data analyses and application, and lead/assist solution development.
- Provide leadership in the assigned area(s) of testing and analyses; ensure accuracy, reproducibility and traceability of the data generated.
- Explore innovation and cost-effectiveness in polymer characterization methods in the areas in compositional analyses, thermal analyses, rheology, morphology, and other testing.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

- Must be able to travel to offsite locations or other business functions as needed (requirement to travel means having a valid driver’s license and being prepared to drive a motor vehicle and to fly with overnight stays required).
- Must implement/educate/train and adhere to all company policies and procedures including but not limited to ISO, personnel, quality, environmental, health, safety, regulatory, and company requirements.
- Must be able to collaborate by integrating and utilizing cross-functional Internal Contacts and External Contact resources to impact Department goals and results optimally.
