The Role
The primary responsibilities of the Biophysical Characterization Research Associate will include performing analytical method development and testing samples using HPLC, capillary electrophoresis and other analytical tools; contributing to design and performing experiments with supervision as needed, for completing tasks within assigned time frames and for maintaining a well-documented record of activities in batch records and lab notebook. The position level will be commensurate with education and experience level. Additionally, the role includes regularly summarizing experiments in lab meetings and assisting in generating reports. This role will be at our South San Francisco location.
Primary Responsibilities
Conducting experiments to characterize adeno associated viral nanoparticles for gene therapy products
Developing and running assays for particle/protein/DNA biophysical assays (SDS-PAGE, DLS, Western Blot, Light Obscuration, RP, SE – HPLC methods, AUC, Capillary Electrophoresis)
Developing additional assays as needed for process development and formulation studies
Developing new characterization tools or following SOPs and running experiments according to guidelines
Assisting in formulation and stability study set up, monitoring and analyzing data using statistical methods
Assisting in writing, reviewing, and editing experimental procedures and reports
Maintaining accurate records of all analytical development activities
Analyzing and determining the applicability of laboratory data to draw conclusions and to make appropriate recommendations
Must Have/Required
Bachelor of Science with 1+ year experience working in a pharmaceutical or biotech company and with the requisite years’ of experience and with the requisite years’ of experience employing the skills listed in the job description (for each level) performing biophysical assays for the characterization of proteins and DNA
Successful experience operating SDS-PAGE, CE, AUC, HPLC or other technologies for protein/DNA based product development
Strong knowledge of Protein and DNA chemistry
Knowledge and proven experience in protein-based product development and characterization
Knowledge and expertise in principles and practice of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP)
Proficient in Microsoft Office to include Excel, PowerPoint, Word
Demonstrated verbal and written skills in technical reports and documents
Positive, professional self-starter with a passion for science
Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment as well as being an individual contributor

Knowledge of protein formulation
Experience with Waters platform
Experience in analytical method development and validation
