We're looking for an enthusiastic APS Case Manager who is responsible for taking a high volume of calls regarding alleged abuse, neglect and/or exploitation of vulnerable adults, conducting a phone interview with each caller and assessing the risk of harm to the vulnerable adult involved in the situation accurately and efficiently.

The APS Case Manager is responsible for entering all gathered information into a database while conducting the interview over the phone and in order to create an intake. Responsible for using all available information to complete the intake and make a screening decision on whether the information provided meets South Carolina's criteria per state law and DSS Policy for what is defined as abuse, and neglect .

Utilize interviewing skills by taking reports of vulnerable adult abuse, neglect, or exploitation of adults by asking detailed questions pertaining to all areas of the APS intake tool and provide excellent customer service to all reporters in accordance with DSS policy, Agency Mission and GPS Practice Model.

Utilize all available systems, conduct research, and analyze information. Document all information in CAPSS thoroughly and accurately via gathering background information on all individuals from CAPSS, SNAP, Child Support, Criminal History, Sex Offender Registry.

Utilize critical thinking skills to make recommendations for further services based on DSS policy and South Carolina statute. Ensure phone coverage during working hours and manage phone system configuration. Work holidays and on call as needed.

Will be required to perform Red Cross shelter/emergency response duties as directed.

All South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) Employees are expected to Adopt, Implement, and Promote the Published Mission, Vision, and Guiding Principles, While Employed by the Agency.

A Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, Social Welfare, or Behavioral Science.

A Bachelor's Degree in any other field and one (1) year of professional experience in Human Services or Social Service programs.

Possess critical thinking and judgment skills to assess each report for safety threats or the appropriate level of risk. Proficient in the use of intake tools and effective documentation. Adept at using active listening and interview skills to elicit pertinent information from reporters of child abuse and neglect. Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of fact-gathering methods and interviewing techniques. Exceptional customer service skills required.

Must be ambulatory, able to lift up to 10 pounds. Must be proficient with computers, including data entry. Must have ability to cope with stressful work situations. Must have a valid driver’s license and will need access to a vehicle. This is a Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm schedule that include weekends, some holidays, and on call as needed.
