If you want to be part of Oregon’s courts to help provide fair and accessible justice services, we encourage you to apply. We welcome all candidates who are inspired by our work and mission.
Highlights of a Pretrial Release Officer…
You will determine pretrial release options for defendants by applying Oregon Revised Statutes, Chief Justice, Presiding Judge Orders, and using risk assessment tools. You will determine who, upon release, is most likely to appear in court, not likely to commit new offenses, and/or does not pose a threat to the community or themselves.
Your work will focus on interviewing defendants being held in custody, pending trial, as well as victims and other interested parties. You will use jail, internal law enforcement, and court case management systems, as well as defendant monitoring software to research and complete risk assessments and determine release eligibility. You will also monitor defendants regarding compliance with conditions of release. At times, you will investigate information received regarding potential violations of release agreements. You will also work with the local partners such as the jail, police agencies, District Attorney’s office, public defender’s office, DHS, DOJ, and CASA to reduce the jail population as the result of capacity-based release order or, on any verified violation(s) of release agreements, make recommendations regarding revocation of the release.
You are expected to perform administrative and computer work related to pretrial release. In performing your work, you will prepare new files, problem solve case management or data issues, review court orders, and respond to questions from judges, court staff, and the public regarding pretrial release and court-appointed counsel.
