General Description:

The purpose of this position is to provide regulatory expertise, conduct scientific analyses, and provide prospective health and ecological exposure and risk assessment to support NAFTA product registrations and defense. Oversees and coordinates the operational direction for regulatory compliance and regulatory approval of pesticides under the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other applicable agencies. Represents Valent with industry technical groups, government agencies, and technical experts to ensure corporate regulatory compliance as well as focus and effectiveness of the company’s development and registration strategies. Provides technical and regulatory guidance to others Technology and to other business units and top management.

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Provides scientific analyses and prospective health and ecological exposure and risk assessments in support of product development or product defense. Recommends risk management options. Prepares technical position papers in anticipation of or in response to government science reviews and negotiates with regulatory agency staff and managers to gain regulatory approvals.
  • Monitors development of regulatory science policy and provides interpretation and advice to guide Valent and Sumitomo’s global product and business development strategies.
  • Creates registration strategy, budget, and schedule for projects of moderate scope (2-3 years) and acts as project liaison with key supplier/client Sumitomo and other business partners. Contributes to decisions affecting product business plans. Summarizes and interprets product-related technical information for various audiences. Responds to inquiries from media or other outside parties on product-specific questions.
  • Prepares tolerance petitions, technical summaries, and administrative documents for regulatory review. Reviews labeling to ensure accuracy and regulatory acceptability. Collaborates with business partners on planning and execution of technical programs.
  • Develops and implements regulatory strategies for US EPA and other applicable agencies to obtain timely approvals for new registrations, and to maintain/defend existing registrations.
  • Advises company on various regulatory strategies and requirements, including Project Managers, Sales, Marketing, Supply Chain and Valent BioSciences.
  • Represents company in trade associations, industry task forces and advocacy groups, as well as government/industry collaborative projects. Provides support to industry lobbying campaigns. Utilizes relationships with trade associations and other stakeholder groups to influence legislative and regulatory policy.
  • Participates in data compensation negotiations.

Qualifications:

  • Typically a BA/BS, MBA or equivalent, with 5-10+ years of related experience.
