We are seeking a part-time Pulmonary Function Technician to work at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI. Under the supervision of the Director of Pediatric Pulmonology, the Pulmonary Function Tech will perform diagnostic pulmonary function tests using spirometers, gas analyzers oximeters and other equipment to evaluate and test for lung disease, as well as assist physicians in obtaining samples and performing other procedures as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Perform physician ordered PFT tests and record patient data. Performing PFT tests requires explaining procedures and giving instructions on various breathing maneuvers to patients and obtaining accurate results.
- Complete a variety of diagnostic pulmonary function test procedures on patients including, but not limited to: Routine pulmonary function studies using spirometer body box and gas analyzer to measure flow rates, drawing arterial blood gas, measuring carbon monoxide diffusing capacity lung volumes and respiratory muscle pressure and performing impulse oscillometry and infant stress oximetry.
- Maintain PFT lab supplies and ensure all equipment is clean and calibrated.
- Assist all clinics with respiratory care, including maintaining medication supplies, assisting providers with bronchoscopy procedures and obtaining any necessary equipment.
- Act as the respiratory therapy liaison for pulmonologists and other medical staff regarding inpatient care, equipment and/or testing as needed.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate Degree in a Respiratory Therapy Program from an AMA approved university
- Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the State of Rhode Island
- Demonstrated knowledge of pulmonary test procedures
- Experience providing care to patients of all ages
- BLS certification
- 1+ years of related experience preferred
