Jhpiego seeks a Project Officer to provide program support under the AlignMNH Initiative. AlignMNH is guided by an International Steering Committee of 20 global thought leaders, with Jhpiego serving as Secretariat. The initiative seeks to align global maternal and newborn health (MNH) advocacy, metrics, financing and action in support of accelerated improvements in MNH and well-being in low and middle-income countries (LMICs). Inclusive of a bi-annual conference series and an online Knowledge Hub, AlignMNH will enable the MNH community to effectively and efficiently share new evidence, identify opportunities and gaps, track progress, cultivate supportive networks, and galvanize energy in the MNH community.
The Project Officer will provide support to the global AlignMNH initiative. Under the guidance of the Senior Program Manager and a dotted line to the Director of Strategic Partnerships, the PO will provide program management support and conference-related support. The Project Officer is responsible for ensuring that good project management practices and tools are being used to stay on scope, schedule, budget for the project. The Project Officer is also responsible for supporting the management of important relationships with high-level external partners.
This is a hybrid role that is based out of our Washington DC office.
Responsibilities:
Management and Administrative Support
- Keep core project management tools updated in commonly shared platform
- Review and escalate quality concerns (technical, project management, financial management, compliance)
- With the Senior Program Manager, maintain internal program management system (SmartSheet) and develop additional tools to ensure alignment among team members for tracking and monitoring
- Provide support to develop cost estimates and review financial analyses
- Conduct after action reviews and document lessons learned
- Draft and edit project documents and materials as needed
- Perform other management duties as assigned
Conference and Event Support:
- In collaboration with the AlignMNH IMNHC Lead, provide support to the overall functioning and operation of various conference committees, including attending and scheduling meetings, taking notes, keeping track of key tasks and following up on the status of activities as needed.
- Providing support in liaising and coordinating with high-level stakeholders on select conference committees and sub-committees.
- Preparing content (slide decks, documents, materials, etc.) for IMNHC-related activities.
- Perform other conference support duties as assigned.
- Advanced degree in public health or related field with 3 years’ experience OR BA and 5 years’ experience
- 3+ years’ experience supporting international health projects, including working or studying internationally
- Experience with workplan development, reviewing quarterly and annual reports, providing budget inputs and program close out
- Certified in PM@Jhpiego (Jhpiego’s internal project management curricula) or PMD Pro (or will be within 60 days of hire)
- Understands basic financial management principles and budgeting
- Strong understanding of at least 2 technical areas in which Jhpiego works
- Experience with Office 365 with strong Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, TeamSites
- Strong organizational skills
- Very good writing skills
- Team player
- Good communication skills with diverse groups
- Problem solving skills
- Ability to travel 10% of the time
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with MS SharePoint, MS Teams and SmartSheet or similar program management system an advantage
- Experience with event planning
- Experience living, working, or studying overseas
- French or Spanish language skills, preferred
