What does this position do?
The Project Manager, Custom Design is responsible for interacting with external clients and designers, owning multiple processes from the foundation up to completion. They help guide customers through the steps needed to create custom plush designs, assisting in imagining, critiquing and finalizing their ideas, and answering questions about the process. They work closely with the internal Art Team to coordinate and assign individual design turnarounds and edits in a timely manner, communicating the clients' requests with our team. They also manage and provide support for our fan-submission art contest, "Project Open Squish", selecting and critiquing fan design submissions, preparing them for voting on our website, and shepherding winners through the design process.
The ideal candidate for this position is incredibly organized, self-motivated, loves to draw, has a good artistic eye, feels comfortable in customer-facing situations (including great communication skills with both customers and other artists) and has fanatical attention to detail.
What will I be doing?
To do this role, you will need to:

  • Work closely and efficiently with a wide variety of external clients, and act as the liaison between those clients and the Art Department.
  • Own responsibility for several creative and admin processes relevant to Custom Plush and Project Open Squish, from the initial stages of submissions and customer interaction, to prepping and processing multiple data and art files, to coordinating with other departments (Customer Service, Production, Wholesale, etc.) when necessary.
  • Shepherd plush designs through the product development process, handling administrative details, and working with other departments such as finance and production to ensure that the experience goes smoothly and is done in a timely manner.
  • Use a customer service system to interact with a large number of customers and artists, responding to questions, critiquing and judging artwork, and keeping everyone updated throughout the processes.
  • Process and polish artwork using Photoshop and other drawing software, and maintain various design-organization systems.
  • Work closely with the internal Art Team to develop and stay abreast of internal designs, customer policies and contest rules.
  • Assisting with brainstorming and implementing new custom and Open Squish marketing materials.

Tell me about the qualifications!
You have a professional attitude, project management experience, a college degree with at least 5 years of experience in an art related field, and you like cute things. You are organized, detail-oriented, and self-motivated. We really mean it about the whole "liking cute things."
What are the skills?

  • A background in a creative field - product design strongly preferred, or others such as illustration, fine art, graphic design, comics, or animation.
  • Experience managing projects, both individually and as part of a team.
  • Very experienced in Photoshop.
  • Extremely strong English writing skills with a funny, lighthearted voice.
  • Basic office technology skills (including Excel).
  • Did we mention you need to appreciate cute things? If you go "Awww" at least once a day, this might be the position for you.

The annual salary range for this position is between $70,000 - 80,000.
