Essential Functions and Objectives:

Consults and collaborates with Collaborative Directors, administrators, and Discipline Building Leaders (DBLs) to inform and educate on equity in discipline to eliminate the disproportionate
discipline outcomes for students of color.

  • Uses current research regarding the elimination of disproportionate discipline outcomes to design and lead discipline induction and monthly professional development for administrators, Discipline Building Leaders (DBLs), mental health staff, and department partners on universal school strategies, individual supports, classroom management, equity in discipline, and student information system data entry.
  • Provides one on one direct and actionable feedback and consultation focusing on strategies that DBLs and school staff may use to promote positive classroom management, increased student attendance, increased student achievement, and progress toward the elimination of disproportionate discipline outcomes for students.
  • Guides department partners to monitor and review discipline data for assigned schools to provide regular data-driven conversations with DBLs to support behavior planning for students with high numbers of suspensions.
  • Conducts shoulder to shoulder sessions with DBLs to provide a deeper level of conversation into policy and procedure, equity best practice, and interventions supports.
  • Acts as point of contact to provide policy and procedure guidance regarding student discipline incidents.
  • Provides assistance for incidents designated an optional or mandatory expulsion request, completion of the expulsion request documents, and review of expulsion documents.
  • Makes creative, sound, legal/ethical, and transparent decisions based on Colorado Law, school board policies, mission, department goals, and school safety to determine if expulsion requests are approved for hearing.
  • Serves as point of contact for Charter leader related compliance with school board policy regarding student conduct and disciplinary procedures.
  • Participates in and supports collaborative research projects between the University of Denver and the District.
  • Provides project planning and supports (trauma informed, behavior plans, bullying preventions, guiding documents, etc.).

K
nowledge, Experience & Other Qualifications:

  • Three (3) plus years of related experience.
- Comprehensive knowledge of positive behavioral interventions and supports, cultural-linguistic best practices, restorative approaches, discipline/expulsion best practices, bullying prevention best practices, and attendance best practices.
  • Strong understanding of the meaning of disproportionality, disparity, and the meaning of these in the achievement of the District student discipline goals.
  • Strong knowledge of the impact of trauma on behavior and the use of the Adverse Childhood Events scale.
  • Proficient in the use of restorative approaches to discipline as a way to productively engage students in school.
  • Ability to foster effective relationships with District staff, schools, and diverse families and community groups.
  • Work style that yields high results when working independently or as part of a team.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects and effectively handle competing demands and deadlines.
  • Ability to develop, plan, and implement short and long-range goals, establish priorities, and organize resources.
  • Ability to cross train to increase expertise in areas of focus.
  • Inspired visionary who can foster/generate excitement, buy-in, and understanding with colleagues and employees outside of the team.
  • High degree of integrity in handling confidential information and adherence to Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Google Suite/Workspace and/or Project Management Software.
  • Ability to travel within the District and work flexible schedules.
  • Proficient understanding of the District’s strategic plan and goals, District policies around student discipline, and the role of student discipline in promoting the achievement of these goals.

E
ducation Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, or related services preferred.
