2023 Job Announcement | Program Coordinator (Field Technician) (2 Positions)
Position Summary:
Friends of the Bridger-Teton, a local non-profit organization, is seeking hard-working individuals to join our small team to assist with accomplishing projects in the field. These are temporary, seasonal positions.
Program Coordinators execute stewardship programs throughout the Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF), working with the U.S. Forest Service, non-governmental partners, and public volunteers. Areas of responsibility include maintaining Bridger-Teton National Forest (BTNF) and public relationships, project coordination/implementation, and volunteer/partner coordination & collaboration. The primary purpose of these positions is to improve popular camping areas, trails, and other BTNF facilities, watershed, and fish/wildlife improvement projects. The projects focus on sustainable natural resource efforts and may involve trail maintenance, fire ring installation, and work with the FBT volunteer ambassador program across the BTNF.
Program Coordinators report to the Executive Director, Scott Kosiba.
Responsibilities:
Maintaining BTNF and Public Relationships
- Cultivate relationships with BTNF staff, volunteer ambassadors, and partners involved with scheduled on-the-ground projects.
- Ensure effective communications between FBT and others working on specific projects so that all will be aware of status and needs.
- Pursue partnerships within local communities associated with the six ranger districts within the BTNF.
- Maintain consistent communication with each Forest District to identify and work toward project priorities. Appropriately timed site visits with the district staff and other partners are expected.
- Lead public education and outreach opportunities
Project Coordination and Implementation
- Assist Forest employees and FBT staff in planning and prioritizing stewardship programs and field projects.
- Work with US Forest Service Volunteer and Partnerships Coordinator to discuss, schedule, and fulfill project submissions.
- Work closely with the BTNF, local communities, and partners to implement on-the-ground field programs and projects.
- Act as FBT project leader to plan, coordinate and execute projects.
- Assist with record-keeping, and financial management, including managing the program/project finances and staying within budget.
- Follow the direction of designated supervisors concerning duties, logistics, timetables, and project reports; perform other administrative duties as assigned.
Volunteer/Partner Coordination and Collaboration
- Coordinate with BTNF employees, volunteer groups, and individuals for successful project implementation in the field throughout the Bridger-Teton Forest and communities.
- Plan for providing the appropriate type and number of tools and supplies to carry out projects efficiently and effectively.
- Ensure safe, clean, and environmentally sound conditions for all projects.
- Promote a positive atmosphere amongst FBT staff, volunteers, and partners.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have a passion for public lands and wilderness and bring experience from backcountry wilderness, stewardship, and community-based organizations.
- Bachelor’s degree (or working toward) in related field – natural resources, nonprofit management, conservation, etc.
- Applicant must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Must be 21 years of age.
- Willing to live/work in remote locations.
- Must possess and maintain a valid US Driver's License.
- Ability to plan projects, manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, set goals, and develop systems for achieving those goals
- Ability to assess risks and opportunities, exercise independent judgment in the resolution of coordination problems/troubleshoot issues
- Must be able to work independently and also coordinate on projects with multiple partners
- Good oral and written communication skills
Hours and Schedule:
- 32-36 hours per week, 4-day work week
- In-State travel
- Some evening and weekend hours as needed.
- Hybrid workflow model and flexible schedule.
- June 1 – October 31 (season end date negotiable) with opportunity to transition to full time, salaried position
Duty Locations:
- One position will be stationed in Jackson, Wyoming.
- One position can be in any other Wyoming location adjacent to the Bridger-Teton National Forest with a Bridger-Teton District Office (Pinedale, Big Piney, Kemmerer, Afton, or Moran).
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary depending on experience $20-$30 per hour, DOE
- Mileage for work-related activities may be reimbursed.
- Time off is flexible and available.
- Seasonal government housing may be available.
