Production Supervisor Job at American Tissue Industries
1. PURPOSE
To achieve production output targets in a responsible, efficient and safe manner while maintaining quality levels in line with Company standards and Customer requirements. To ensure maximum operational time for machine output, Plant and Plant Logistics operations. Manage, develop and improve Team members’ performance.
2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead team of machine & forklift operators
- Prioritize and assign work to team
- Monitor and follow up on work quality and make adjustments as needed
- Work with other departments’ leads regarding problems, issues and higher output requirements
- Manage manpower on shift (flow resources), back fill as needed
- Ensure product quality meets customer requirements (secure loads, properly wrapped pallets)
- Ensure Safety Rules and company policies are observed by the Team
- Possess a strong knowledge of all SKU’s and production schedule
- Complete shift summary reports and follow up to include pass-a-long meetings
- Able to resolve raw material issues, ex. shortages, damaged, poor quality, etc.
- Coach, mentor and motivate machine & forklift operators
- Develop plan to build and develop skills for team members
- Involved in conducting performance reviews for machine operators
- Works with planners and Plant Logistics Supervisor to resolve production and material planning issues
- Conduct safety and housekeeping audits
- Train new and existing employees on team
- Lead team meetings
- Work with Inventory Control team and assist with weekly cycle counts
- Verify all transfer loads are scanned correctly and the pallet count matches trailer sheets
- Attend daily Production Meeting to report/recap the evening shift’s performance and opportunities. Assess day’s requirements and share with Plant Logistics leadership for day’s work planning.
- Responsible for emergency situations on shift
- Make calls to appropriate support team members beyond maintenance
- Participate in panel interviewing and selection of Team candidates
- Conduct preliminary safety investigation and inspections
- Communicate all key issues to appropriate management personnel
- Ensure timely completion of production and quality reports
- The candidate must be able to work independently, and frequently under time constraints

Internal
- Reports to Manufacturing Manager
- Direct reports include Forklift Operators and Line Leads
- Indirect supervision of material flow and maintenance personnel
5. JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience Background:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Logistics experience in a manufacturing environment required.
- Supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment including managing several direct reports, performing employee performance evaluations and accountability for the success of those reports strongly preferred.
- Possess working knowledge of line processes.
- Experience training and developing direct reports preferred.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Leadership skills, including effective communication, mentoring, coaching and motivating
- Planning and organizing, time-management, problem solving and troubleshooting
- Demonstrated proficiency in reading/writing/speaking English
- Ability to operate and understand principles of machinery
- Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Outlook and Excel
- Ability to work within SAP or similar system effectively
- Willing to train in and perform First Aid/CPR
6. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and written
- Leadership, problem-solving and decision-making skills and abilities
- Proficiency with MS Outlook and Excel
- Must be able to work overtime and assigned schedule
- Must wear PPE per company regulations
- Must be flexible and responsive to the needs of the department/ business.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Must be able to work 12 hour shifts and rotations.
- Must be able to sit, bend, stand and walk during scheduled shift.
