Job Title: Sr. Production Supervisor/Safety Coordinator
Immediate Supervisor: Production Managers and Safety Manager
Shift: 1st Shift (8:00am – 4:00pm) Minimum 45 hours/week with occasional weekend or holiday.
Pay: $60,000 – $80,000/yr
Summary: The Production Supervisor is responsible for managing the day-to-day functions of the production departments including Intake, HTST, Cheesemakers, Production, Brine, RO, Packaging, &any other areas that come up as needed to make the facility run efficiently. The Safety Coordinator ensures compliance with all safety policies and procedures in accordance with all local, state and federal requirements. They are responsible for trainings, inspections/audits, investigations, and recordkeeping.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Production Supervisor:
- Train and manage production staff to ensure that receiving, production and shipping processes are continuously reviewed for efficiency improvement.
- Ensure that all sanitation activities are completed in the production areas, including equipment inspections and equipment teardowns.
- Monitor chemical and cleaning supply inventories and complete necessary paperwork.
- Assist with preparation for plant inspections.
- Manage staff to assure that production start-up is in a ready state. This includes staging production supplies, monitoring schedules, staffing and all tasks associated with filler start-up.
- Assist with the management of the raw milk receiving operation including staff scheduling, monitoring equipment to ensure compliance, conduct staff training as necessary.
- Participate in overall plant management by working directly with members of management throughout all departments within the plant to ensure quality, efficiency and customer service.
- Counsel and discipline employees as appropriate.
- Maintains working knowledge and skill in operating equipment utilized under his/her supervision.
- Assures compliance with established quality and sanitary standards and takes corrective action concerning deficiencies.
- Critically evaluates all work rules and regulations and takes corrective action regarding any potential safety hazard.
- Exercises good judgment and discretion in the use and care of company assets under his/her supervision.
- Assist with employee complaints and resolve personality issues between workers.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/Requirements of Production Supervisor:
- Must have three or more years of related supervisory experience or 5 years of floor experience.
- Should have solid working knowledge of production processes
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (oral and written)
- Prefer fundamental skills with Microsoft Office applications
- Must be willing to work flexible hours as required
- Must be able to verbally communicate, understand, and write in the English language.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of Safety Coordinator:
- The Safety Coordinator ensures Environmental and OSHA standards meet local, state and federal guidelines
- Leads local safety committee, safety meetings, hazard assessments and updates safety communications and postings
- Conduct hazard assessments, safety inspections and compliance audits to measure compliance and effectiveness
- Implement safety policies to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations
- Deliver training programs, track for completion and monitor for effectiveness
- Conduct and direct the entire process of accident investigation/analysis
- Analyze trends through root cause analysis to identify causation and risk factors to identify corrective or preventative action measures
- Record keeping / onsite logs for OSHA and Lock-out and Tag-out procedures
- Serve as the liaison with local, state and federal safety agencies
- Makes recommendations for process improvements
- Responsible for promoting a culture of safety and quality within the site
Qualifications/Requirements of Safety Coordinator:
- Proven experience as a safety professional
- Preferred: Some level of certification in occupational health and safety (OSHA 10 or 30), ISO 45001: Occupational Health & Safety Certification, or BSc/BA in safety management
- Knowledge of legislation (e.g. OSHA/EPA), procedures and regulations
- Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices
- Knowledge of basic industrial safety programs (LO/TO, CSE, forklift, arc flash, etc.)
- Experience preferred in writing reports and policies specifically for health and safety
- Familiarity with conducting safety data analysis and reporting statistics
- Proficient in MS Office; Excel, Outlook, Word
- Outstanding organizational skills
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics to employees ( able to conduct employee training)
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand or walk for prolonged periods of time. The employee is required to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls and reach with hands and arms on a repetitive basis. The employee must be able to push/pull exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently and, up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Requires visual acuity to review written documentations; ability to hear and understand speech. At times, there may be sufficient noise that causes the worker to shout in order to be heard. There is exposure to a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and exposure to heat/cold temperature changes.
