Probation/Parole Officer - Senior/Career (Internal DOCCR applicants only) Job at Hennepin County
The Department of Community Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCCR) is seeking a Senior or Career Probation/Parole Officer to join its Adult Pre-Adjudication Services division. This position will involve the completion of bail evaluations on individuals booked into the Hennepin County Adult Detention Center. This position may also perform criminal history checks, interviewing defendants, contacting victims, verifying information and presenting reports to the court.
Individuals interested in applying for this position must be eligible for promotion to Senior or Career Probation/Parole Officer or currently employed as a permanent Senior or Career Probation/Parole Officer.
Salary based upon qualifications:
Probation/Parole Officer, Senior salary: $61,545.73 - $92,318.60 Annually
Probation/Parole Officer, Career salary: $67,854.17 - $101,781.26 Annually

In the position as a Senior Probation Parole Officer, you will:
- Demonstrate good judgement, discretion and decision making in all aspects of the role, with specific ability to defend over-ride the Adult Pretrial Evaluation Scale results to the court as required on their cases and the cases of Probation Parole Officer peers.
- Collaborate with law enforcement and criminal justice partners regarding client’s involvement in criminal activity to promote public safety.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of inter-agency relationships through formal participation as a DOCCR representative and/or leader. This includes, but is not limited to justice stakeholder groups, agencies, human services and community organizations, academic institutions, department staff, volunteers, and interns.
- Demonstrate an ability to operate independently with the most complex cases within the unit.
- Be proficient with correctional Evidence Based Practices and can stand in for a Correction Unit Supervisor to coach entry level or senior Probation Parole Officers on their work assignments requiring higher level functions.
- Stand in for supervisor with court partners at all locations and manage concerns about work products.
- Collaborate with law enforcement and criminal justice partners regarding client’s involvement in criminal activity to promote public safety.
- Maintain accurate documentation of a wide variety of case activity, including, but not limited to contacts with offenders, clients, victims, concerned parties and treatment agencies, utilizing department and client data systems.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of inter-agency relationships through formal participation as a DOCCR representative and/or leader. This includes, but is not limited to justice stakeholder groups, agencies, human services and community organizations, academic institutions, department staff, volunteers, and interns.
- For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Senior, one of the following:
- Associates degree in any field and six or more years full-time equivalent paid experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
- Bachelor's degree in non-related field and four or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
- Bachelor's degree in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field and three or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by in the justice system or human services.
- Master's degree or higher in sociology, social work, criminal justice, psychology, counseling, law enforcement, education, or a related field; including completion of a supervised clinical field work training/internship (if required by degree program); and one or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
- Note: The Evidence Based Practice Corrections Professional Certificate may be substituted for one year of relevant experience.
- A valid driver's license and the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver's permit.
For hire as Probation/Parole Officer, Career, one of the following:- Associates degree in any field and eight or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.
- Bachelor's degree in non-related field and six or more years of relevant full-time equivalent paid or volunteer work experience with clients served by the justice system or human services.

- Experience completing bail evaluations.
- Experience currently working as/or have ever been a probation/parole officer.
- Knowledge of:
- The principles of social learning theory and human behavior.
- Casework practices, conflict resolution and de-escalation tactics, interviewing and investigative methods.
- The criminal justice system, criminology, individual and group behavior, chemical dependency assessment and treatment.
- Legal procedures, therapeutic and strength-based approaches to motivating changes in behavior, assessment of needs and appropriate interventions.
- Ability to:
- Work successfully across cultures, respectful of lived experiences in all communications and demonstrate on-going expansion of one's own awareness and understanding of culture and active support for equity.
- Build effective, strengths-based relationships, be flexible and adaptive when working with clients, peers, supervisors, departmental priorities, and external stakeholders.
- Function independently within defined agency policy and procedures and maintain confidentiality of client information.
- Evaluate results of investigations, interpret information, and make recommendations; resolve conflicts, problem solve and make decisions.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in writing, work effectively and respectfully with a variety of clients in a variety of settings and use differing intervention strategies which facilitate offender change.
- Excellent communication, time management and task prioritization skills, and comfortable with evolving technology.
