POSITION: Probation Officer

SALARY: $22.36 - $23.72, per hour

REPORTS TO: Program Manager

LOCATION: Probation & Parole, Nespelem, WA

Basic Functions: Under general supervision, responsible for monitoring the conduct of individuals placed on probation, house arrest, and scram through observations, random home visits, complete written and verbal orders and motions as needed. Investigate and write presentencing reports for the Court as directed. Present before the Court, recommendations and probation revocations.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology or a closely related field; AND twenty-four (24) months of closely related work experience; OR
  • Associate’s degree in Social Work, Psychology or a closely related field; AND forty-eight (48) months of closely related work experience; OR
  • High School Diploma or GED; AND a combination of education and experience in Social Work, Psychology or closely related field totaling seventy-two (72) months of closely related work experience demonstrating the ability to perform the duties of the position.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ vehicle insurance and maintain coverage throughout employment.
  • Requires a valid First Aid and CPR certification or obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Must successfully complete the Probation Academy within one year of employment.
  • Complete Drug and Alcohol testing certification.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Principles and practice of probation work, Court procedures
  • Knowledgeable of community resources
  • Knowledge of Legal terminology associated with judicial proceedings
  • Knowledge of Colville culture, customs, resources, and traditions or a willingness to learn
  • Ability to gain confidence and cooperation of socially maladjusted persons
  • Ability to establish effective and professional relationships with other persons/groups
  • Ability to appraise personas and situations accurately and adopt effective action
  • Ability to write and speak effectively
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to work without supervision
  • Ability to maintain a respectable stand of conduct both on and off the job
  • Ability to perform other duties as required.

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.


TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.


If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver’s license and be eligible for the Tribes’ Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
