The Principal Software Architect is a technology leader with broad knowledge of modern approaches to large scale delivery of software applications, platforms and services in Life Sciences, Healthcare, or related domains. The person will be responsible for the technology strategy for ThermoFisher Scientific’s digital products ecosystem and will use prior experience, excellent communication, knowledge of technology & architecture, and leadership skills to collaboratively work with product and technical leaders to establish strategy and drive collaboration and alignment across multiple businesses in order to ensure successful and accelerated delivery of valuable products and services to our customers.

What will you do?

  • Co-develop and lead domain architecture with R&D product architects and product management to identity and drive prioritization of centralized ecosystem capabilities to meet product development and commercialization roadmaps
  • Collaborate, synthesize technical roadmap, and coordinate technical planning to achieve product interoperability, compatibility, and software capability and component reuse
  • Review detailed requirements and collaborate with contributing teams to ensure process alignment, quality, and consistency, function and features decomposition, and user experience, accountable for documentation in support of quality, software development process compliance, and ecosystem participation
  • Proactively collaborate with other members of the ecosystem management team to inform and advise senior leaders and collaborators on ecosystem-related decisions
  • Collaborate with business and technical team members to highlight impact of business requirements, design ecosystem architecture, and document functional and technical specifications
  • Participate in retrospection and collaborate to improve standardized process that support R&D new product introduction and lifecycle processes to delivery capabilities and shared software assets
  • Establish and own processes at the program level to support execution mechanisms such as co-development, internal open-source, and centralized development
  • Bring clarity and reduce uncertainty in technical and people situations by showing the behaviors and approaches needed to drive digital transformation
  • Diagnose complex issues and evaluate, recommend, and support execution of the best resolution
  • Lead through influence to build consensus with multi-functional and geographically dispersed teams
  • Well-developed skills in translating high level business goals to technology strategy and turning that strategy into action plans
How will you get here?
Education
Masters’ degree in Computer Science or relevant field
Will consider equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience
  • 15+ years of experience in software development and architecture
  • 8+ years of leadership responsibilities with a track record of planning, executing, and completing complex projects
  • Authoritative understanding of commercial new product development processes and software development lifecycles including strategy, requirements, development, test, delivery, operations, and support across multiple teams including DevSecOps
  • Confirmed experience delivering products to marketability to identify high-level gaps in the understanding of the technical roadmap between work stream collaborators
  • Familiarity with processes to collect and align requirements from user perspectives such as Design Thinking and Lean Inception
  • Waterfall and agile project management and development methodologies
  • Build vs buy and vendor evaluation and management
  • Experience with both SaaS and on premises deployed software solutions and strategies used in hybrid-cloud deployment modes
  • Experienced developing applications used in a Life Sciences or healthcare enterprise, such as Instrument/Asset Management, Laboratory Automation, Laboratory Informatics, Scientific Instrument Data Analysis, and integration with EMR, Clinical Trials, or other related information systems
  • Delivering solutions that need to follow regulatory, security, and data privacy standards

The salary range estimated for this position is $172,200.00 to $232,800.00 annually. This position will also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy. Actual compensation will be confirmed in writing at the time of offer.
