Our Flavor Research and Creation team leads the discovery and creation of breakthrough flavor systems to bring superior taste to our products which is the core competitive advantage for the growth of our business at Coca-Cola.

The Principal Flavorist is a unique opportunity for an exceptionally talented flavorist who enjoys mixing traditional approaches with the latest innovative tools in flavor creation. The primary responsibility will be to lead the development of our next generation great tasting flavors that deliver superior taste performance. This position reports through the R&D organization and time will be divided between the development of upstream technology flavor creation tools and support for the immediate needs of the business. The individual will be working with a diverse set of scientists and the ability to communicate effectively with others of diverse training and background is crucial for the role. The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a research/upstream technology development role and knowledge of leveraging the latest tools in flavor creation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Co-lead the development and creation of best tasting flavors, including the development of the latest tools

• Manage multiple projects/priorities, thrive in a fast-paced environment and maintain a leadership mindset

• Work closely with Product Development and Marketing on flavor concept creations

• Lead the development of platform technologies for the Flavor Creation Community

• Partnering externally to leverage innovations and technologies in alignment with key business strategies

• Serve as a mentor and role model within the organization with an extensive history of working through others and a growth mindset for the business

• Lead as a visionary who thrives in leveraging innovation and developing capabilities to support the flavor creation process

• Communication of flavor creation processes and achievements to members throughout the organization and senior management

• Operate with an agile and adaptive mindset which enables one’s ability to act responsively to business needs to create a competitive advantage for our organization

Education & Qualifications:

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Biology, Nutrition, or another science-related field

Preferred

• Full Certification in the Society of Flavor Chemists

• Prior flavor house experience

Related Work Experience:

• 15+ years of experience in flavor development and creation

• History of successful implementation within business categories

• Experience collaborating across multiple functions and delivering on tight timelines; critical to success in this role

Functional Skills:

• Creativity, with a high level of sensory acuity (ability to taste, and smell)

• Knowledge of essential oils, flavoring chemicals, solvent systems, flavor delivery methods and other building blocks used in flavor creation

• Extensive knowledge of instrumentation used in flavor development (including but not limited to gc/ms, gc/o)

• An in-depth knowledge of citrus flavors, chemistry, and stability in formulations of beverages.

• Understanding of flavor labeling (FDA, USDA, TTB, and standard of identity), and flavor regulatory organizations

• Design, conduct and/or review flavor creation experiments (e.g., laboratory or process experiments) to deliver new, consumer preferred flavors/flavor keys for The Coca-Cola Company beverage products

• Participate in team projects, interdepartmental/divisional committees, or company-wide initiatives to share information, represent the department/division perspective, or assist with product development, process modification, package development and marketing
