Plant Manager Job at Fleenor Paper Company
OBJECTIVE: The Plant Manager is responsible for all activities and results of their facility. They must make critical business decisions that affect facility results. The Plant Manager directs organization change initiatives, projects and programs and is the champion and leader of these efforts within their facility.
Essential Functions
1. Responsible for the safe, efficient operation of all facility activities and deliverables
2. Manage all production, converting operations, shipping & receiving, maintenance, inventory and employee relations for the facility
3. Supervise all facility employees. Set expectations, provide consistent feedback and hold employees accountable for meeting business objectives. Develop their skills through job assignment and training. Ensure appropriate employee discipline, following company policy and practice.
4. Ensure a robust and effective Safety Program for the facility. Conduct multiple daily facility inspections to ensure safety, legal regulations and company standards, including cleanliness, are consistently maintained. Ensure plant managers and supervisors also conduct daily inspections.
5. Manage the Maintenance Manager to ensure the proper installation, removal, repair and maintenance of all Company equipment.
6. Ensure department managers coordinate overall plant activities, including scheduling production, based on Sales requirements, utilizing materials for maximum efficiency, minimum cost and minimal waste
7. Partner with the Purchasing Manager to conduct non-raw material purchasing for facility.
8. Partner with the COO & CFO to create and manage the facility budget, billing and job costing, production and converting cost analysis and to improve plant efficiency and cost effectiveness
9. Ensure cost-effective purchasing for the facility.
10. Ensure compliance with all State and Federal regulations and company policies, including hazardous materials, safety and work rules, and employment law.
11. Ensure proper completion and maintenance of all facility records, including but not limited to: production records, time & attendance, safety training and investigations, MSDS, IIPP and OSHA
12. Ensure accurate and proper inventories are conducted and reported
13. Keep company owned or rented facilities safe and secure
14. Ensure managers maintain and continuously improve outstanding safety and cleanliness in the facility
15. Ensure staff is cross-trained so that business is not affected by short- or long-term absences
16. Ensure the Sales Team is appraised of order status, providing sufficient time to contact the customer in case of delay or incomplete orders
17. In partnership with the COO and CEO, lead Managers in the development of short- and long-term goals for the facility
18. Daily, on-site, reliable attendance required
Other Duties
1. Strive to meet customer and sales needs. Be flexible responding to changing sales and operations needs.
2. In partnership with the COO, develop new products and services as customer demands and business opportunities require
3. Serve as a resource and leader in the implementation of new programs and procedures
4. Be readily available to employees at all levels of the organization.
5. Required to attend OSHA training annually; HAZMAT training as needed and remain CPR and First Aid certified
6. At all times behave in a professional and courteous manner and be a role model in the facility
7. Travel as required
8. Other duties as assigned
Reporting Relationship
1. Reports to the Chief Operations Officer
2. Works closely with Purchasing, CEO, CFO, Vice President of HR and Vice President of Sales
Minimum Qualifications
1. Four years experience managing others
2. High School Diploma or GED
3. Bilingual English-Spanish
4. Established ability to clearly communicate to all customers, vendors, staff and employees in a professional and effective manner.
5. Ability to quickly learn plant equipment, machinery and processes, all products sold, and the various grades of paper converted
6. Established ability to make decisions logically and analytically
7. The ability to accurately determine production and material costs.
8. Ability to think mechanically and work with managers in determining new procedures and systems to improve plant efficiency and cost effectiveness
9. Ensure all employees are treated in a fair and consistent manner.
10. Flexible – able to respond positively to changing business needs
11. Ability to partner with and lead employees at all levels of the organization
Preferred Qualifications
1. Four years experience managing others as an Operations or Production Manager
2. Bachelors Degree in related field
3. Prior work experience in packaging material
4. Ability to utilize staff in an effective, efficient way and to accomplish business objectives, including process-improvement projects
5. Ability to lead the development of new products and services
Physical Environment/Working Conditions
This position is in the factory, where temperature fluctuations occur throughout the year and where employees must use eye and hearing protection and be cautious around equipment and forklifts.
