Position Overview:
The EHS Technician acts as a safety leader in the facility, constantly seeking ways to improve safety and increase associate awareness of safety by utilizing safety committees, company programs, as well as developing creative solutions to create a world-class safety culture at Shaw.
Responsibilities:
- Act as a safety leader at Plant 22. Continuously seek opportunities to improve/increase associate awareness of Environmental Awareness, Safety, and Health.
- Drive and manage plant safety programs which include but are not limited to the following: Safety Champion Program, Check Engine, and Safety Focus.
- Act as a change agent by utilizing safety/ergo committees, company programs, and developing creative solutions to change the culture.
- Coordinate and lead environmental, safety and health initiatives.
- Elect and prepare safety topics, training, or demonstrations for associate, vendor, and contractor safety meetings
- Perform SAFE and environmental system compliance audits and inspections according to facility policies, laws, and regulations.
- Prepare and submit detailed reports to members of Management for corrective action to be taken or maintenance to be performed.
- Maintain all documentation and required metrics for the plant’s SAFE, Environmental, and Security programs.
- Coordinate and develop training & drills for PEO Team
- Maintain and monitor facility SDSs in the HSI system and periodically audit to verify accuracy
- Maintain expert level knowledge of all applicable Risk Management programs and insure all annual compliance documentation is completed and properly filed.
- Serve as a resource in the incident investigation process and root cause analysis, and corrective action follow-up.
- Ensure all EHS communication boards and T.V.s in the plant are up to date.
- Attend Management meetings as needed to provide updates on safety, including Safety/Ergo Committee findings and recommendations.
- Coach hourly associates and serve as a source of information on health and safety issues.
- Perform SPCC/SWPPP inspections
- Perform other job duties within the EHS Department as assigned.
- Ability to read and write effectively

Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Exceptional listening, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Reliable, attentive to detail, and must be a Self-starter
- Desires to be creative, encourage others and implement new ideas
- Proficient in Microsoft Applications, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
