Overview
Consider joining the Larimer County Community Development team as the Planning Manager! Larimer County is seeking an experienced and skilled individual to grow their planning career. The Planning Manager plays an important role within the department’s leadership team and organization, managing a team of planning professionals while working closely with higher management and leadership on the most interesting and complex planning cases and projects.

Responsibilities
Specifically, this position:
- Provides supervision and mentoring for a team of professionals in the Planning Division.
- Collaboratively works with other managers and teams to define and implement work plan goals for the department.
- Supports improved processes including electronic plan review and customer service.
- Manages the development review program, coordinates planning activities, and analyzes and makes recommendations using the Land Use Code.
- Assists the Director in providing staff support to the Board of County Commissioners, the Planning Commission, the Board of Adjustment, and other boards as assigned.
- Leads by example and upholds Larimer County’s Vision and Guiding Principles, which includes encouraging innovation and contributing to an inclusive and enjoyable workplace.

We are looking for a candidate that will:
- Provide leadership and supervision to support a great team of professionals and manage a variety of complex code related projects and processes.
- Be a strong communicator and present complex ideas clearly and concisely with colleagues, higher management, boards and commissions, customers, and the public.
- Collaborate and build partnerships with other managers and internal work teams (e.g., Building, Code Compliance, Engineering, and the Health Department), and external agencies.
- Develop staff’s knowledge and create an environment that’s comfortable for learning, innovating, and sharing ideas and feedback.
- Be approachable, composed, and calm under stress.
- Be adaptable and support change management.
- Analyze, improve, and standardize existing processes and systems as needed.
- Be action-oriented and strive for successful outcomes.
Qualifications
All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Planning or a related field from an accredited college or university required. Master's Degree in Urban Planning or a related field preferred.
- Eight (8) years in land use planning experience in a local government environment, including supervisory responsibilities required. Master's Degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Urban Planning, or a related field may substitute for two (2) years of the required years of experience.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License by date of hire required.
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) within one (1) year of hire required.
- Completion of Systematic Development of Informed Consent (SDIC) training preferred.

The typical schedule for this position is 8am - 4:30pm Monday to Friday with occasional night hearings and meetings.
An offer of employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check. As marijuana is an illegal substance under federal law, testing positive for marijuana (medical or otherwise) or any other substance for which the county tests, will result in the contingent offer of employment being revoked. A successful completion of the drug screen is defined as obtaining a negative result.
