JOB TITLE: PHYSICAL THERAPIST
JOB SUMMARY: The person holding this position will lead the process in development, implementation, and coordination of the physical therapy program
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Expected to independently review outcomes and modify intervention programs
- Evaluates the student’s ability and formulates the student’s physical profile through a variety of functional and standardized assessments, skilled observation, checklists, histories, and interviews.
- Observe and assess motor function, control and coordination of posture and movement, strength, endurance, joint range of motion and overall functional gross motor skills.
- Observe and assess mobility: wheelchair skills, ambulation with or without adaptive equipment and transfer skills.
- Observe and assess the need for individual or environmental adaptations: accessibility, wheelchair needs or repairs, adaptive devices and equipment utilization for lower extremity or overall gross motor performance.
- Collaborates with other disciplines to ensure team understanding of student physical performance, strengths and needs, through evaluation, educational program planning, and service delivery.
- Synthesizes evaluation results into a comprehensive written report which reflects strengths and barriers to student participation in the educational environment; directs program development; and guides evidence-based intervention
- Develops functional intervention plans based on student needs and evaluation results.
- Participates in multidisciplinary meetings to review evaluation results, integrate findings with other disciplines, offer recommendations, and develop individual education plans and intervention plans to achieve IEP goals.
- Provides targeted, evidence-based therapeutic intervention to facilitate student participation and functional performance within the school environment.
- Consults with the school-based team to achieve student outcomes.
- Educates student, educational personnel, and family to facilitate skills in areas of functional mobility and school access, as well as health maintenance and safety.
- Monitors and reassess the effects of physical therapy intervention and the need to continue, modify, or discontinue intervention.
- Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
- Provides legal and ethical supervision of physical therapy assistant assuming responsibility for the students served by assistant.
- Adheres to federal and state legislation, regulation, and policies that affect physical therapy practice.
EDUCATIONAL/TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s of Science in Physical Therapy (minimum requirement)
- Hold a current Licensure from the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision
- Organizational skills, basic mathematical skills, basic computer skills, and communication skills are an essential part of this job.
- Knowledge of special education law, policies, and procedures
- Extensive Knowledge of physical therapy theories, models of practice, principles, and evidenced based practice to guide intervention decisions
- Knowledge of human development throughout the lifespan and integrates with student’s unique developmental status.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Lift and move adaptive equipment.
- Maintain a flexible schedule in order to meet the needs of families and other staff.
- Operate a computer to enter data, maintain records and generate reports.
- Operate modern office equipment and software.
- Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Position requires ability associated with prolonged periods of heavy physical labor.
- Position regularly performs heavy physical labor requiring ability to lift, carry, push, pull, and move heavy objects or materials such as lifting over 50 pounds on a continuous basis; lifting over 50 lbs. maximum or carrying any object weighing over 25 lbs.
- Will be required to regularly stand; walk; and sit for extended periods
- May experience constant interruptions, inflexible deadlines, and changes to normal routines.
- The ability to communicate with various groups of people is essential. This may include communication with parents, teachers, transportation, administrators, and outside agencies.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- 183 day contract
- Pay Scale is based on a certified teacher, but similar experience in the field may be considered
- 5% Special Education Stipend (Based on Base Salary)
- $8500 stipend for Physical Therapy services
STATUS: Exempt Support
