The Opportunity
This position works out of our Abbott Park, IL location in the Corporate Human Resources division.
As a payroll analyst, you’ll be supervising payroll processing & time reporting as shared service. Monitoring federal, state and local taxes, Social Security contributions, employee benefit contributions, garnishments, and other deductions to ensure accuracy of individual paychecks for US employees. You will also monitor time card submission for completeness and accuracy through an automated Time and Attendance system.
What You’ll Work On
- Ensure payroll transactions are properly classified and in compliance with general accounting principles and audit requirements.
- Supervises a team to process transactions and assign goals and objectives, providing, coaching and mentoring as necessary.
- Stay up-to-date and train team and affected departments on new state, federal and local laws relating to time reporting, payroll, payroll tax and garnishments.
- Maintain company compliance with local, state and federal laws through review of pay practices, time sheets, pay statements and exception reports.
- Review and audit payroll records to confirm accuracy of hours, pay and confirm timely payment.
- Responsible for the input, processing and distribution of the bi-weekly checks for entities which are not handled at the local level.
- Process and record incentive awards.
- Process, verify and distribute annual W-2 forms to current and ex-employees.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual state payroll tax and unemployment returns.
- Remit the appropriate taxes to city, state and federal governments.
- Resolves any employee questions regarding payroll issues.
- Investigate and resolve errors escalated from team.
- Responsible for improvements to the payroll and time reporting systems.
- Responsible for the enforcement of internal controls with respect to payroll changes.
- Support all Company initiatives as identified by management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements.
- Complies with Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments. Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelors Degree in Human Resources or Finance
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in related field
- Experience processing payroll and/ administering time reporting systems.
- Experience working in a broader enterprise/cross-division business unit model preferred.
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed and geographically diverse business environment.
- Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment. Ability to leverage and/or engage others to accomplish projects.
Preferred Qualifications
- Education: Masters in relevant field
- Certified Public Accountant or Certified Payroll Professional
- Data Analytics Experience
- Experience managing a team
- Mastery of Microsoft Suite
- Experience with Workday
