2. Communication Skills

5. Patient Safety

a. Implements procedures for security, equipment safety and infection control.

b. Observes room for safe environment for patients, visitors and staff members. Observes patient for any behavior that could indicate potential problems for patient or staff and alerts nursing staff immediately.

c. Ensures patient safety by following all fall prevention protocols.

d. Abides by policies governing patient rights and responsibilities.

e. Notifies nurse of witnessed or suspected abuse according to policy.

6. Management of Information

a. Respects all aspects of confidentiality

b. Works closely with Primary Supervisor to ensure approval of hours do not incur unapproved overtime.

c. Assures room is kept tidy and uncluttered for clear access to patient care treatment and mobility.

d. Keeps patient and linens clean

e. Assures call light is in reach for all patients.

f. 9. Performs various routine patient care services under the direction of the RN.

g. Assists with mouth, hair and skin care.

h. Offers bathroom assistance and remains within arm’s length of patient when in the bathroom

i. Offers assistance with meals and feeding.

j. Assists with transfer from bed to chair, bed to toilet or bed to cart.

k. Utilizes good body mechanics when lifting or transferring patients.

l. 10. Provides psychological support to aid patients.

m. Monitors confused patients and reports mental status changes to RN

n. Assists patients with orientation to person and place

o. Engages patient in conversation

p. Maintains calm demeanor with agitated or confused patients.

q. Offers a variety of diversional activities to occupy patient as appropriate.
