Position Summary
The Department of Neurology is seeking a Patient Access Coordinator-Neuropsychology who will work on Pre-Certification/Authorization for procedures and admissions within its units. The position is responsible for obtaining Pre-Certification for procedures to ensure reimbursement is maximized through required interaction with third-party payors. This position reports to the Revenue Cycle Manager, with a dotted line to the medical director of the neuropsychology service.
Responsibilities
Monitor and maintain the patient schedules of various Neuropsychology providers
Monitor and schedule patients from the Neuropsychology Work queue, maintaining the queue
Contacts appropriate insurance companies for benefit verification and pre-certification, primarily for Neuropsychological Testing
Initiate & facilitate Pre-Determinations as required by specific payers. Supply all documentation required during the pre-certification & pre-determination process to all payors.
Ensure all necessary authorizations and referrals have been received and entered into EPIC.
Counsels patients and families on financial procedures, specifically regarding self-pay policies & out of pocket expenses.
Act as liaison between internal & external customers, including patients, healthcare professionals, and administrative & clinical office staff.
Communicates any changes in requirements and precertification issues with the appropriate section.
Coordinate admissions into the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, and maintain all stakeholders Informed on admission status.
Assist with obtaining pre-certification for ancillary tests.
Miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus two years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous pre-certification experience is required.
Knowledge of EPIC, insurance plans, and basic medical terminology.
Ability to participate as a team member.
Self-motivated with strong analytical skills.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and have demonstrated excellent Interpersonal and communication skills.
