JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Do you want to help make the world a better place by eliminating the risk of infectious diseases? Do you want more highly transferable laboratory experience? The Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences is seeking to hire highly motivated individuals as Research Assistants (for up to 24 hours per week).
These individuals will work together with a diverse group of committed scientists in the laboratory of Dr. Vivek Kapur. They will work on global health related projects that are funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the US Department of Defense and other major US and international funding agencies.
Typical laboratory duties may include but are not limited to: Performing basic molecular biological techniques (DNA/RNA extraction, conventional and real-time PCR), immunoassays, preparation of bacteriological media, assisting with laboratory organization, autoclaving and disposing of biohazardous material.
Penn State undergraduate students working on degrees in Animal Sciences, Anthropology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Sciences, Veterinary Sciences and related fields are preferred. Experience analyzing biological data in R is a plus.
Attention to detail, strong written and oral communication skills, and excellent organizational skills are required.
