Summary:
Fort Myers Construction Corporation, a leader in Heavy Highway Construction, has an exciting opportunity at its Mechanic Shop for the right individual. The Operations Shop Manager will be responsible for coordinating the personnel, work assignments and repairs to all vehicles and equipment. Fleet consists of Paccar, GM, Ford, Isuzu, John Deere, Komatsu, and Caterpillar.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Plans and coordinates tasks and activities of company’s fleet auto repair shop, working on gas and diesel-powered vehicles, trucks, and heavy equipment,
  • Understands, keeps abreast of and complies with federal, state and local regulations that affect service operations such as hazardous waste handling, disposal and OSHA Right-to-Know etc.
  • Ensure the records of all inspections, repairs and maintance are retained according to 49 CFR Part 396.3 as follows:
  • Identifying information of the vehicles, including company number, make, serial number, year and tire size,
  • Maintain a schedule highlighting the type due date of inspections and maintenance to be performed,
  • Inspection, repair and maintenance records must indicate the date and nature of each repair,
  • Maintain records for each vehicle control through ownership or lease for 30 consecutive days,
  • Make immediate notification to the DOT Compliance Office of any mechanics/inspector’s dismissal.
  • Prepares maintenance schedules for motor vehicles and heavy equipment; notifies drivers and operators when maintenance is to be performed,
  • Operates diagnostic equipment to determine repairs that need to be made,
  • Performs repairs and maintenance for company vehicles and equipment,
  • Maintains database of maintenance and repair records for company vehicles and equipment,
  • Oversees shop inventory, (orders parts, shop supplies, and equipment),
  • Ensures all applicable safety standards and regulations are followed in facility,
  • Daily production meetings with team to communicate daily goals and mitigate production risks,
  • Identify and implement cost and through process improvements; ensure equipment and processes provide operator safety; effectively support the implementation of new products into production,
  • Ensure progression path training and certification process is consistently executed,
  • Hires and trains shop employees,
  • Oversees the daily workflow and schedules of shop employees,
  • Conducts performance evaluations that are timely and constructive,
  • Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy,
  • Handle related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years old,
  • High School diploma or GED required,
  • Bilingual desired,
  • Must be knowledgeable of the Code of Federal Regulations 49 CFR,
  • Superior communication skills,
  • Fluent in use of Microsoft applications including Excel, Outlook, and Word and use of production software application,
  • A minimum of 5 years of management experience in the Construction Industry desired,
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills,
  • Must possess good time management skills and be able to schedule/complete repairs within allocated time frame,
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills,
  • Ability to manage 20 plus employees,
  • Must have a positive attitude and work ethic,
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team,
  • Must be ready to work day or night shift,
  • Must possess a valid driver's license,
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, which includes all eligible booster shots, except when vaccination is not medically advised or violates your sincerely held religious beliefs in violation of EEO laws, and
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug & alcohol screening.
