The mission of the Clark County Food Bank is "to alleviate hunger and its root causes." One of the root causes of hunger is a lack of access, knowledge, skills and confidence needed to prepare and shop for tasty, nutritious, affordable meals. The goal of the nutrition education program is to offer cooking, nutrition and garden education opportunities to low-income individuals, families and youth in an effort to eliminate the need for long-term food assistance. The position directly aims to support CCFB's mission by providing opportunities for clients to learn how to cook, shop, grow and prepare healthy, delicious meals on an affordable budget. By gaining these skills and knowledge, clients will be able to stretch food dollars and thus reduce reliance upon food assistance. Clients will also become healthier as a result of consuming healthier food options.

Essential Functions:

  • Create, plan and prepare for education classes and workshops.
  • Teach and facilitate classes and education opportunities related to nutrition, cooking, gardening, grocery shopping and other food skills.
  • Communicate with volunteers, participants and community partners.
  • Complete reports and maintain data tracking procedures.
  • Attend organization wide meetings and events as it relates to project.
  • Engage with professional development opportunities and trainings.

This position is an AmeriCorps role with a 10.5 month term of service

Program Benefits: $2890.48 Monthly living stipend, $6400 Education award upon successful completion of service, Childcare assistance if eligible, Training, Health Coverage

Terms: Permits attendance at school during off hours , Permits working at another job during off hours, Car recommended.
