Responsibilities
This position serves in a senior networking role in the ITS Network & Communications Technology (NCT) Core network group. This position is responsible for design, installation, maintenance, operation and repair of all core network components, systems and applications as well as other complex networks of the University.
This position is in the NCT Core networking group of ITS and specifies, designs, installs, configures, manages and monitors the core networking equipment, both hardware and software, for the University which includes a) Tallahassee campus b) Panama City campus c) Data Center network d) Cloud Environments e) remote locations f) other locations added or deemed critical to University business as well as access for all of the University locations to the Internet. Responsibilities for the above sites Include configuring, documenting, code development, debugging and testing of all core networking equipment and all supporting systems and applications. Provides technical support for the University data networks and associated systems and applications through the diagnosis of problems and taking appropriate remediation actions any time, day or night.
Collects and analyzes network performance monitoring data. Provides technical advice and consultation to other ITS and University users and stakeholders on the campus network. Provides technical troubleshooting to ITS staff and University users for complex computer, application and network related problems.
Performs duties in compliance with ITS policies, guidelines, and procedures pertaining to support requests, work orders, project management, change management, and incident management. Appropriately utilizes associated tools in accordance with ITS standards.
Advise the Associate Director and other ITS management on the revision of established policies, procedures, and standards to ensure that current policies remain up-to-date and relevant in a dynamic computer networking environment. Interface with other university and commercial sites in the area of large-scale data networks, acting as a representative of ITS. A State vehicle, golf cart, utility vehicle, or all- terrain vehicle will be used to reach site premises. A valid driver's license will be needed in order to operate vehicle.
Functions as project leader for network services to the entire University. This includes a) responsibility for training, development, and overall performance of analysis, as well as regular reporting of their progress b) effectively distributing workload; c) offering advice and consultation in the coding, debugging, and testing of complex networking software; and d) reviewing and editing documentation.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or other appropriate degree and six years' experience or a high school diploma or equivalent and ten years of experience (Note: or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to ten years.)
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Ability to convey technical information to technical and non- technical users.
Ability to develop and implement policies, procedures, goals, and objectives.
Ability to document existing and new processes.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Ability to prioritize, organize and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously.
Ability to utilize technical and problem solving skills.
Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations.
Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
Knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the telecommunications, network and data field.
Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, maintain and repair a variety of equipment and machinery used in area of work.
Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position to include bending, knelling, crawling, and moving objects up to 50 lbs.
A valid Florida or Georgia driver's license or the ability to obtain one.
Preferred Qualifications
Cisco Certifications (CCNA or CCNP)
Palo Alto Certifications
Experience with EVPN
Experience with managing Cisco routers running IOS-XR
Experience with Python programming
Experience with Cisco Network Service Orchestrator
Experience with linux systems administration
Familiarity with Palo Alto Panorama and firewalls
