Great Lakes Bay Health Centers (GLBHC) is a community health center umbrella made up of 32 locations throughout the Great Lakes Bay region and beyond. Most locations are set up to serve medically underserved populations, but our doors are open to anyone regardless of insurance or lack of insurance. JOB SUMMARY
Ensures the appropriate, courteous and professional reception of students and other visitors, who enter the school-based health center. Carries out the duties necessary to maintain a properly functioning school-based health center from the standpoint of patient scheduling and customer services. Obtains pertinent patient and insurance information. Must be open and flexible to utilizing clinical skills when necessary staff shortages occur at the health center. Must be culturally sensitive to the needs of the adolescent population in a school setting.
JOB DUTIES
- Answers telephones promptly, and handles calls courteously, professionally and appropriately, including scheduling of patient appointments as directed. Screens calls to determine whether they are to be directed or handled.
- Appropriately greets incoming and outgoing students and other customers in a courteous manner and assists them with prescreening and registration.
- Maintains clinical skills and routinely complies with clinical standards for lab testing, assessing vital signs and documenting appropriately. Works to update immunization records according to vaccine schedules. Responds and assists staff with emergencies when needed.
- Serves as an advocate for SBHC services in the school environment and the community. Assists other school-based health staff with special projects that include health promotion. Participates in after-hours school-related activities, when needed. Assumes other responsibilities as needed.
- Demonstrates a willingness to be reassigned to other GLBHC sites when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
- Education: High school graduate or equivalent. Must be certified as a Clinical Assistant or Medical Assistant.
- Experience: 2 years previous experience in medical office or clinic setting required. Possesses medical billing experience as appropriate.
- Full-time, 36 hours per week or less. Flexible and varied. Some evening hours required for special projects and activities such as school-related events, i.e. PTSA meetings, Parent-Teacher’s Conferences, etc.
