About this position

Collects, performs and evaluates clinical laboratory tests ordered by the physician to assist in the diagnosis and monitoring of customer treatment by providing timely and accurate laboratory services to meet the needs of neonate, infant, adolescent, adult and geriatric customers. Performs all services in a manner that meets regulatory compliance.

What we’ll expect from you

• Performs and reports manual and automated testing in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Assesses the validity of results in the context of age and growth/development status. Takes appropriate action based on the test result and notifies physician and/or pathologist as required.
• Validates, documents and reports results following standard operating procedures including the calling of critical results.
• Collects and processes samples in compliance with customer identification, infection prevention, hazardous waste and specimen integrity standard operating procedures.
• Maintains competency by performing proficiency testing and performing, evaluating and reporting of quality control.
• Communicates effectively including reporting quality control variances to supervisors, between shift communication with SBAR, and interacting respectfully with customers.
• May participate in the training and orientation of students and team members, new testing development, and writing and review of standard operating procedures.
• Accepts other duties as assigned to promote the accomplishment of organizational goals.
• The team member is accountable to demonstrate proficiency for the skills outlined in the appropriate position skills list.
• The team member is accountable to maintain skill proficiency, including improvement where deemed necessary, and upgrading any additional or new skills on the appropriate position skills list.
• Recognizes and complies with legal regulatory, accrediting and procedural requirements related to area of responsibility.
• Understands and follows principles and standards as outlined in North Memorial’s Corporate Code of Conduct.
• Protects customer and team member privacy and only accesses customer and/or team member related information as needed to perform job duties.
• Reports violations or areas of concern to supervisor or Corporate Compliance Officer via established methods of communication.

Education

Experience, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• 1 year of related experience preferred
• Knowledge of universal infection prevention protocol and standard safety practices and procedures.
• Skill in operating standard laboratory equipment.
• Ability to evaluate laboratory test results.

Licensure/Certification(s) Mandatory

ASCP or equivalent certification or eligible to sit for Board or Registry exam. Certification is required within 1 year of hire and maintained as a condition of continued employment.
