Medical Assistant - West Houston Job at Spring Branch Community Health Center

SUMMARY:
The Medical Assistant is responsible for performing any front and back office duties under the direction of the Nurse Manager and/or Chief Medical Officer. Primarily the Medical Assistant will be responsible for documenting all of the patients’ medical history, obtaining vital signs, explaining treatment procedures to patients, preparing patients for examination, and assisting physicians during the examination.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Associates Degree from an accredited university a plus.
· Must be a Certified or Registered Medical Assistant.
· Certified BLS or BLS equivalent.
· Bilingual- English/Spanish is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Interviews patients to obtain and accurately document their medical history
2. Responsible for obtaining patients’ vital signs
3. Perform routine specialized procedures under established protocols- including but not limited to: administering skin tests, routine injections, venipuncture, and sterile dressing changes
4. May perform basic laboratory tests, collecting and preparing specimens
5. Provides patient education in a clear manner at appropriate level
6. Monitor patient appointments and may coordinate routine office activities
7. Maintains supplies in each patient room and alerts Clinical Lead of supply shortage
8. Performs general administrative duties such as: addresses telephone encounters, organizes patient handouts and accurate clinical documentation
9. Prepares for daily huddle with provider
10. Reviews patient documentation prior to patient departure
11. Maintains cleanliness in patient rooms and clinical work area
12. Participates in Compliance, Risk and Safety, Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement Activities
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
14. All Health Center staff members have emergency and disaster response responsibilities. Participates in all safety programs which may include assignment to an emergency response team.
Requirements:
Available for all shifts/assignments and, when required, able to work evenings and weekends
Traveling between the West Houston and Katy Clinic is required
Valid Texas Driver’s License and personal automobile insurance
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: From $18.00 per hour
