We have immediate openings for 2 bilingual medical assistants at our expanding Mission Viejo clinic!
JOB SUMMARY: Provides medical services and information to patients, assists medical providers in the scope of care to SOS patients. Rooms patients, screens and takes vitals, preps room for patient visit. Completes electronic medical records and other documentation. Provides information to patients about their care and post-visit care/follow up. Helps maintain a clean and orderly clinic work environment. Regular attendance and on-time arrival are conditions of retention in this position. The Medical Assistant works in the team-based model of care.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manages the care of patients in collaboration with other health professionals and members of the health care team in order to make decisions about treatment and attain health goals.
- Assists providers in the provision of medical services to SOS patients.
- Completes electronic medical records and other documentation accurately. Uses electronic health records system and other databases (for example, CAIRS registry, MediCal) to enter and/or secure data online.
- Prepares patients and the EHR data for the provider and type of visit. Identifies specific patient needs, if any, for effective patient care and communication.
- Performs point of care testing as required by type of visit and provider order.
- Safely administers medications and vaccines through various delivery routes per providers’ orders.
- Performs ear lavage, basic wound care and dressing changes.
- Performs basic diagnostic tests, for example, EKG, hearing and vision screenings.
- Assists providers for procedures as needed. May translate for providers when pertinent.
- Uses EHR to record data for patient encounters and follow-up care.
- Cleans and stocks rooms as scheduled and needed to meet standards.
- Identifies actual visit type and correlates with correct medical coverage classification (FAM-PACT, CDP, as examples). Works with front desk to re-code visit appropriately.
- Maintains knowledge of referral practices and protocols and correctly assists with the referral process for tests or other services.
- Works efficiently with front desk staff to manage back office patient flow.
- Follows up with patients by phone and email as needed (or directed by clinicians) to answer patient questions or check on patient status.
- Maintains all equipment in clean and proper condition.
- Works with patients by phone related to follow ups, medications and other matters.
- Attend trainings and meetings; complete other duties as requested or assigned.
COMPUTER & EQUIPMENT SKILLS:
- Proficient Use of Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Uses electronic health record software (SOS uses EPIC);
- Strong knowledge of computer operations, proficiently uses a keyboard
- Use typical office equipment (computers, fax, phones, copiers, audiovisual)
QUALIFICATIONS and EDUCATION:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Certificate - Medical Assistant Program
- One year medical assisting experience preferred
- Required - Bilingual in English and Spanish for both verbal and written communication, including use of basic medical terminology required
- Valid BLS/CPR Certification
- Must have a passion for working with patients.
- Excellent customer service skills
- Has personal vehicle for work use; has valid driver’s license and good personal driving record and insurance policy that meet SOS requirements
All qualified candidates will be subject to an employment/criminal background check and must be able to provide proof of required vaccinations which include: COVID-19 Vaccination, TB Test, Annual Flu vaccination and MMR. Required Proof of COVID-19 Vaccine & Booster OR qualify for 1 of the 2 COVID Vaccine Exemptions requirement as per state/federal healthcare requirement. SOS Is a healthcare organization and therefore are mandated to comply with the CDPH Public Health Officer Orders regarding COVID Vaccinations. SOS will provide vaccines to new employee's if needed at no cost.
