Medical Assistant Responsibilities and Duties: Having patients in the exam rooms promptly with all documentation completed in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Taking patient vital signs (temperature, pulse, blood pressure, respiration, O2 saturation) heights, weights, and head circumferences. Completion of all forms utilized by the provider in providing services accurately (growth charts, WIC forms, MPE, Pap forms, cytology-pathology, etc.) Using flags in every room appropriately to save time and effort. Place COMPLETED triage sheets in the box outside of the exam room after the patient has been placed in the room.
Assisting in entering medical records from outside providers including consultation notes, laboratory and imaging results. Assisting provider in ensuring up-to-date health maintenance for each patient seen in the clinic by using Clinical Event Manager in the EHR. Assisting provider in ordering standard laboratory tests for chronic disease visits. Assisting provider in submitting the Electronic Superbill when completed and directed to by the provider.
Assisting provider in e-prescribing medications once the appropriate changes to the medicines have been made by the provider. Assisting other medical assistants and nursing staff in scheduling consultation appointments or imaging appointments for patients as ordered by providers. Managing obtaining medical records for CMC’s patients, as well as responding to requests for medical records from third parties and assuring that all medical records are dealt with within three business days Assisting with “blue cards” Assisting receptionist in taking messages Assisting receptionist in scheduling appointments and surgeries. Obtaining consents for medical procedures with the assistance of physician Answering phones.
Alerting the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of a shortage in needed supplies so they can be ordered Cleaning and stocking rooms daily. Cleaning and sterilizing supplies, rooms and equipment daily. Assisting / performing ancillary services as ordered by the physician and as credentialed by the Nurse Manager Administering medications and vaccinations as ordered by the provider and ensuring that correct vaccinations are being given, that correct lot numbers are documented, that expiration dates are being checked before administering the vaccines, and that handouts are being given to the patient or his/her guardian at time of administration. Clearly communicate with the provider when taking lunch and breaks and who will be cross-covering during these times.
At the end of each day, all equipment should be removed from the rooms and lights turned off. If there are any doctors remaining in the health center, the assistant should notify them that they are leaving and ask if they need any assistance before leaving. Assist with entering resident labs, imaging, referrals that have resulted Assist with telephone calls, medication refills from resident patient panels Assist with population health by assisting with registry management for a variety of preventative health and chronic diseases as directed by the RN / Office Manager.
