An AUTOMOTIVE OEM is looking for an MECHANICAL ROBOTICS ENGINEER to support the organization's ongoing vehicle R and D initiatives. This LONG TERM CONTRACT POSITION (with possibility of extension and even transitioning to direct) will work with a team to develop prototype vehicles designed to handle extreme terrain conditions. These vehicles are being designed to move fluidly and intuitively, with the ability to walk as needed.

Day to day (hybrid - 3 days onsite each week):

  • Assist in the creation of technical roadmaps and project plans for control systems for legged-wheel locomotion and robotized suspension systems for ground vehicles.
  • Own the design of specific components and subsystems for ultimate mobility vehicles (UMVs) from requirements through fabrication and initial testing.
  • Create and implement workflow to evaluate designs using virtual environments and simulation platforms.
  • Model components and subsystems in CAD software (SolidWorks)
  • Perform or oversee the use of FEA structural analysis code along with hand or analytical calculations based on first principles for design improvement and reliability
  • Support the development of vehicle and subsystem requirements
  • Plan and implement additional projects, budget planning, and purchasing processes, and other administrative tasks outside your core area as assigned.
  • Communicate design decisions to the rest of the team and documents plans, progress, and findings using collaborate document programs (e.g., Jira and Confluence) and engineering data management programs (e.g., Valispace)
  • Work in a team environment providing guidance and mentorship for less experienced team members

Qualifications:

  • BS in mechanical engineering, robotics, or a related field. May also apply with relevant work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in robotics and mechanical hardware design engineering
  • Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Quadruped robot experience and ground vehicle design experience preferred
  • Ability to think and design beyond the current prototype and requirements, keeping overall project goals and even manufacturability in mind is preferred
  • Prior experience with full product lifecycles is preferred
  • Familiarity with MuJoCo, ROS, or ROS 2 is a plus
  • ANSI and ASME drafting standards experience a plus
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, Simscape, Confluence, Jira, or Valispace a plus
  • Experience in DFX (X = manufacturing, assembly, test, etc.)
  • Experience with subtractive and additive manufacturing methods
  • Cross-disciplinary collaboration skills
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse team environment.
  • Excellent skills in MS Office tools (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.)

Must Have: Prior Robotics Engineering Experience

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $50.00 - $57.50 per hour
