This is a 8 hour, 260 day per year Mechanic I - Mechanic Helper position with benefits. Anticipated start date is October 1, 2022.
Hours for this position are TBD.
The successful candidate will assist mechanics with minor repairs and preventative maintenance; transport students, as needed and obtain credentials to drive bus and sub routes.
Minimum Qualifications: Mechanic experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Mechanic experience and CDL.

JOB SUMMARY:
Assist journeyman mechanics and head mechanic in the repair, service and maintenance of buses, vans, cars, other district vehicles, and related equipment.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist journeyman mechanics and head mechanic in the performance of preventative maintenance and service required to keep buses and other district vehicles in a ready state of service.
- Make repairs to buses such as replacing door latches, lights, spark plugs, oil filters, wheel bearings, signal lights, distributors, ignition points, seat repairs, electrical repairs, window/glass repairs, etc.
- Check and change oil; check and fill anti-freeze; repair and mount tires; adjust brakes, lubricate chassis, and other parts and assemblies, as required.
- May wash and clean interiors and exteriors of motorized vehicles and equipment; operate fuel pumps, car wash equipment, steam cleaners, electric and air driven tire changing equipment, vehicle hoist and other general shop equipment.
- Clean work areas and operate motor vehicle equipment, as required.
- Drive school bus as needed for routes or shuttles
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school graduation or its equivalent.
- Ability to read, write and perform basic math.
- Valid Washington Driver's License, with acceptable driving record.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and certification by the State of Washington as an authorized school bus driver, or ability to obtain required.
- One (1) year experience in a garage or service station, or equivalent experience. Vocational or technical training in transportation mechanics may substitute for work experience.
- Ability to perform physical work both indoors and outdoors to include lifting, walking, standing and bending.
- Ability to work independently with minimal instruction.
- Possess tolerance for frequent outside work.
- Demonstrated ability to follow directions of supervisors and cooperate with co-workers.
Preferred Qualifications:
- First aid training and certification.
