MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:
Under the direction of the Engineering Supervisor, this position is responsible for the design, implementation, workings and methodology to support the Value Stream team’s production and efficiencies. The Manufacturing Engineer analyzes the value stream and identifies opportunities to eliminate non-value added steps in the process. Will discern when and how to implement the following lean techniques: 5S, waste identification and elimination, S.M.E.D, Kaizen, error proofing, one piece flow, set-up time reduction, Kanban, balanced work flow, and other concepts. The Manufacturing Engineer will provide team leadership support for process improvement projects; quality, productivity, cost reductions and lead process-mapping exercises.

MAIN JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Follows all personal and manufacturing Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) as defined by Viant Medical’s practices, policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) to insure that FDA regulations are met
• Authorized to represent the Engineering Department in signing off on Specification Change Orders
• Performs project management responsibilities for assigned manufacturing changes or new product launch
• Monitors and improves recommendations of fixtures, tools and methods to meet productivity and specifications quality standards
• Recommends new tools and methodologies including costing and cost estimates for design or product process changes
• Evaluates existing machinery and processes to recommend improvements that enhance both operator performance and ergonomics/safety of overall production
• Optimizes floor layout, material flow, along with implementation of lean concepts; document improvements to manufacturing efficiencies, takt time & cycle time, floor space utilization and overhead
• Develops or revises technical documentation to specify manufacturing processes; including documentation of equipment qualification, setup and maintenance procedure
• Repairs and trouble shoots machinery used in the manufacturing process
• Conducts research and development testing and validation to determine effectiveness and compliance to quality standards for the manufacturing processes
• Confirms conformance to engineering designs and methodologies and verify overall safety and prepares reports on these activities
• Utilizes proven lean manufacturing based analytical and troubleshooting/problem solving abilities to identify opportunities for cost reduction, lead-time reduction, inventory reduction and quality improvement through defect reduction
• Performs other tasks as assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering preferred
• Knowledge of FDAQSR, ISO13485, ISO14971 Risk Assessment
• Job Experience:
• 3-5 years engineering experience

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Software, AutoCad and Pro Engineer
• Project Management and Lean Manufacturing experience
• Good knowledge of statistical tools, ability to manage multiple tasks
• Must be flexible and adapt to changing environments and priorities
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Excellent process, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Moderate amounts of bending and twisting and Lift of 50 lbs
