Organization Description

TVW is Washington’s national award-winning public affairs network providing gavel-to-gavel coverage of the activities of all three branches of state government via cable television and web-streaming. Since our television signal went live in 1995, TVW has provided an unfiltered, unedited, and unbiased lens into the workings of state government. The organization operates on three guiding principles; 1) provide open access to state government for everyone, 2) produce non-partisan content by offering “gavel-to-gavel” coverage allowing our viewers to make up their own mind about issues, 3) facilitate civics education and work to inform Washington residents of all ages about their state government and the legislative process.

The staff is comprised of 30 Full Time Employees based in our offices and studio in Olympia, Washington.

Position Summary

TVW seeks to hire a Major Gifts Officer (MGO) for a newly created position responsible for designing and implementing a multi-faceted plan to attract major donors who will fund TVW’s upcoming capital campaign and ongoing donations contributing to our general fund and our endowment supporting all operations of the station. The MGO will report to the Director of Development and work closely with the development team, the President, and have direct interaction with TVW’s Board of Directors.

The Major Gifts Officer will be part of a team funding the expansion of the TVW offices and studio at our existing location that will increase our production capacity to cover the work of state government, relevant state associations, boards, and commissions and other organizations that have statewide impact. Core donors are found throughout the state and some in-state travel may be required to engage with these donors. The expectation is that the successful candidate will work from TVW offices in Olympia, however, there is the possibility of an intermittent, but scheduled remote work option.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

Capital campaign strategy and planning

  • Help lead the strategy, planning and implementation of the capital campaign, working collaboratively with the President, Director of Development, contracted capital campaign consulting firm, and TVW Board’s Capital Campaign Committee
  • Work with the President, Director of Development, and members of the Committee and Board to cultivate prospects including individual donors, corporations, and foundations

· Manage capital campaign prospect lists, including research and tracking

  • Develop and execute targeted cultivation plans for campaign prospects lists
  • Prepare and provide support to staff and board for solicitations
  • Lead and participate in solicitations, solo or with staff
  • Manage personal portfolio of individual major donors
  • Implement donor acknowledgement and recognition, as appropriate
  • Work with Director of Development, President and campaign consultants to research and write grant language to support campaign execution as necessary
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly campaign reports for the President, Director of Development, and the Capital Campaign Committee
  • Plan and implement cultivation, solicitation, and recognition events
  • Collaborate with staff to develop capital campaign print, web, and social media materials

  • Donor engagement status provided to full Development Team via weekly Development team meetings

Compensation

  • This is a full-time, year-round, salaried position.
  • Salary is commensurate with experience within TVW’s annual range of $80,000 to $85,000.
  • Full-time benefits-eligible position; benefits package includes:

· Comprehensive Medical Premium Only Plan – Pre-Tax Premium Deduction (3 Tier Plan Options – 2 with HSA Employee Pre-Tax Contribution Option and Employer Contribution for Single at $150.00 / Family at $200.00), Dental, Vision, EAP Insurance, with $15K Employee Life / AD&D Insurance Coverage – 100% employer paid for employee, 65% employer paid for qualifying dependents.

· Retirement Plan – 403(b) Employee Contribution Eligible on date of hire, employer matching contribution up to 5% after 6 months of employment. Fully vested after 24 months of employment.

· Vacation accrual starting on date of hire – 80 hours per year, cap at 240 hours, Sick accrual starting on date of hire – 80 hours per year, cap at 560 hours, with increases in annual accrual based on years of service after 5 years.

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working in non-profit organizations, with at least 3 years in roles involving direct active solicitation of individual donors, grants and/or corporate support
  • Proven ability to develop relationships with individuals and corporations that result in direct philanthropic investment is required; experience in closing gifts of $10,000+ preferred
  • Demonstrated success in managing complex projects; experience on a capital campaign preferred
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communicator, both written and verbal
  • Strong personal motivation, initiative, follow-through, and commitment
  • Personal and professional values consistent with TVW’s mission, values, and principles

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to work collaboratively and independently
  • Commitment to giving and receiving both positive and constructive feedback

· Experience with Little Green Light and Mail Chimp is a plus

Accountabilities

This position reports to the Director of Development and engages with the President/CEO, Individual Giving Manager, Office Administrator/Events Manager, Business Manager and other members of the Development Team, as well as the senior leadership team, TVW’s contracted capital campaign consultant, and the TVW Board of Directors and Capital Campaign Committee.
