Description / Position Overview

Maintenance Technician I - Pikes Peak - America's Mountain
In this position, you will perform a variety of maintenance duties in support of Pikes Peak - America's Mountain with the support of PPAM maintenance and road crew team members.
Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:


  • Maintain and repair buildings, structures, drainage systems, grounds, and trails
  • Perform repair duties in the area of assignment, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, HVAC, and masonry
  • Complete work orders and maintenance tasks ensuring compliance with City policies, procedures, public safety standards, and aesthetic guidelines
  • Perform field inspections checking for wind damage, vandalism, and safety issues
  • Assess and complete necessary repairs and maintenance
  • Assist the PPAM road crew with road maintenance, including plowing and sanding the highway, pothole repairs, curbing, crack sealing, and pacing to maintain the integrity of the roadway.
  • Assist in the collection and proper disposal of trash and debris
  • Provide support for special event operations
  • Interact with guests, providing information and conveying area rules
  • Complete accident and incident reports as necessary
  • Assists in the documentation of all scheduled/unscheduled work performed
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission and vision of PPAM
We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:
  • Ability to operate a wide variety of vehicles; truck & trailer, UTV, ATV safely on and off the mountain
  • Ability to operate/ use power tools, hand tools, and precision tools safely
  • Ability to work with hands, tie knots, repetitive motion, etc.
  • Ability to do physical work, stand for long periods of time and perform repetitive motions
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to follow directions and implement tasks with little to no supervision
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Ability to operate two-way radios

Successful candidates will have

  • Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • Possess and obtain, a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charge
One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements.

Ideal candidates will also have

  • Two years of facility maintenance experience
  • Possess a non-probationary Class A Colorado CDL (Commercial Driver's License) not subject to restrictions related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges
  • Experience working in an outdoor setting, mechanical, and physical work history

Additional Information

Work is performed in an outdoor environment with exposure to extreme weather conditions, high traffic areas, and at an altitude up to 14,115 feet.

This position is located in Cascade, CO. Employees are responsible for their own transportation to and from the workplace.

Regular attendance is essential to the performance of this job.

This position requires the ability to walk and stand for extended periods, work around moving vehicles and wildlife, stand, sit, stoop, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally. Potential exposure to hostile or aggressive PPAM guests may be encountered.

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
