General Purpose and Scope of Position:
This position is responsible for the effective operation of all district shop facilities, shop personnel and oversees all ground equipment in the district. This position budgets, orders, coordinates fabrication and the servicing/maintenance of all ground equipment to support all the operations of the Application, Delivery and Yard teams. This position oversees the daily maintenance of all application and support equipment at the assigned (shop) locations and the management and development of shop/equipment staff. The position is responsible for the effective and efficient repair of machinery and components at high levels of quality in accordance with Wilbur Ellis standards and those of other monitoring agencies. The individual will also implement changes and improvements to the department as needed to ensure the smooth operation of the facility(s).
Key Skills and Abilities Include:
- High school diploma or achievement of high school diploma equivalent (GED)
- 3 to 5 years of experience in a management role with experience in vegetable farm equipment repair, maintenance, design, and fabrication
- Must have excellent mechanical skills
- Ability to assemble and perform maintenance functions on equipment
- Previous supervisory or management experience preferred
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language
- Ability to use computers and different software
- Ability to differentiate parts and numbers

Specific Responsibilities and Key Deliverables Include:
- Responsible for coaching, developing, and retaining key employees, including giving performance feedback, making hiring and discipline recommendations, and identifying training opportunities for employee development
- Ensures the daily maintenance of all applications and support equipment at all the locations in the district. Equipment includes trucks, tractors, implements, and any other support equipment assigned to the specific locations
- Performs extensive record-keeping as required by Wilbur Ellis and other monitoring agencies/departments both internal and external to Wilbur Ellis. Recordkeeping is required for the shops as well as the overall branch facility (yard, buildings, and other related infrastructure)
- Oversee shop work orders and flow at all 3 locations
- Checks daily inspection reports to ensure appropriate measures are taken to resolve any mechanical issues before equipment returns to service. All equipment must be maintained in optimum operating condition including the support vehicles for the application equipment
- Reviews all repair work orders for accuracy and completeness concerning parts, materials, and labor and approve the release of equipment for return to service
- Applies mechanical skills and understanding of fabrication techniques to ensure equipment operates safely and efficiently for maximum productivity by users
- Oversees the appraisal of repair work needed on equipment including all costs, materials needed, etc. that exceeds the normal scope of work expected on equipment
- Assign jobs and work areas to shop personnel according to their skills and knowledge as required for maintaining efficient operation of all equipment
- Direct and/or provide aid in maintaining the overall location, including yard, buildings, and other related infrastructure
- Maintain technical and product knowledge for all equipment used within the manager's area of responsibility
- Develop and maintain equipment lists, plans and budgets to forecast equipment needs and effective use of existing equipment
- Write and submit capital expenditure requests for new equipment
- Source new equipment from suppliers and see the process through to delivery and payment
- Proactively seek and participate in available company-sponsored training, to develop and advance skill set and knowledge base
- Follow all safety rules and regulations while performing work assignments and adhere to all policies and procedures as specified in company manuals and as directed in the employee handbook
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment at all times
- Perform all other duties as assigned by management in a professional and efficient manner
Compensation and Benefits:
In compliance with all states and cities that require transparency of pay, the base compensation for this position ranges from $30.05 - $40.08 per hour. Note that wages may vary based on location, skills, and experience. This position is eligible for vacation, holidays, health, dental, vision, mental health, retirement plans, and other benefits.
