Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic General Duty

Starting Rate of Pay: $16.85/hour



Position Summary: Perform a variety of work in the maintenance, repair and preventative maintenance of
buildings and machinery/equipment including carpentry, electrical, plumbing an painting tasks. This is a
highly customer service oriented position in which employees should strive to exceed customer
expectations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance to ensure that machines continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and the physical condition of buildings does not deteriorate.
  • Inspect drives, motors, and belts, check fluid levels, replace filters, and perform other maintenance actions, following checklists.
  • Paint and repair roofs, windows, doors, floors, woodwork, plaster, drywall, and other parts of building structures.
  • Perform minor plumbing and electrical work not requiring license.
  • Clean and perform scheduled maintenance on Physical Plant rotating equipment.
  • Assist others with repairs requiring two or more people.
  • Assist Campus Safety with fire alarm calls when necessary.
  • Submit work requests for building maintenance needs not requiring prompt attention.
  • Perform basic computer checks/ changes on campus Energy Management Systems.
  • Must be able to work independently with little to no supervision.
  • Must have general knowledge of campus procedures for emergency situations.
  • Must be a problem solver and operate according to safety regulations on campus.
  • Ability to gain general knowledge of the campus.
  • Live out the Clarkson University values in all daily activities.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Essential Skills:

  • Valid NYS Driver License and acceptable driving record required.
  • Must have enthusiasm for the job, a customer service approach and be willing to work within a team environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship to diverse constituencies and accomplish written and oral directions is necessary.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Education:
Minimal Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associates degree or work experience equivalent.

Experience:
Minimal Qualifications:

  • One year of experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair; or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Three or more years of experience in building and mechanical equipment maintenance and repair.

  • Mobility sufficient to enter and exit confined spaces in accordance with established procedures, climb and descend ladders in a safe manner, and walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Dexterity sufficient to operate manual and power tools, light and heavy duty equipment and other equipment utilized in the course of work.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy items weighing up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
  • Endurance sufficient to maintain routine discomfort from exposure to moderate levels heat, cold, and moisture.
  • Other demands as required by specific position.
